Back and groin pain after 6 weeks

6 weeks post op and I'm going backwards (uncemented) .  I had got going round home with no crutches, now I have pain in the groin which I put down to pre-op lack of use and back using the crutch all the time.  Thought things were going too well!

I just wondered if any of you got a pain all the way across the bottom of your back it is driving me crackers, I still do excercises and walk for about 10-15 mins 3 times a day but the back is agony, I do have disc problems but this usually affects my buttock or leg and it's not that kind of pain.  Because of all the restrictions I find it impossible to do all the rehab excercises for my back the best I can manage is a very small bridge and pelvic tilt.  I had just got down to 1 tramadol every 36 hours and paracetamol I really don't want to go back on the tramadol it's such a major to get off with the sweats and aching.

Sorry it's a negative one.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

hi suzie,

awww, I am so sorry to hear this. .

sounds to me that you might have overdone it a wee bit.

you're relearning to walk, keeping your body straight up, and trying not to limp. .

this puts a strain on your back, pelvic area, all kinds of muscles are being called upon. .

just relax the exercises, do what you feel comfortable with and stop when it hurts...

you are doing great. ..and always come here when you have a question or concern, okay?

Big warm hug

Hi Suzie,

No need to apologise for negative posts.  Most people tend to post of they're having problems.

6 weeks is still early.  I know that's not what you want to hear bit really it is.  Your body is still healing.  The technical term for going backwards is 'blip'.  That's what my physio calls it anyway.  I had a horrible couple of weeks round about 6 weeks after my physio had described my recovery as textbook.

Take it easy and don't push your body further than is comfortable.  Take the pain relief, you don't get anything for being a hero.  I'm sure this will pass.

Thanks - I think I just needed a reminder, you know what it's like you just convince yourself you should be doing better, and my recovery so far was absolute text book and going well, my autie gave some 'tiger balm' for my back and that is easing the pain, thought it was a bit old wives but it has really brought some comfort last night and this morning.

yeh to Tiger balm !!!  love it, grew up with it - smell reminds me of childhood -

I know, darling - we do feel better and push ourselves a little more and more and more and wham !!!!!

If it's any consolation, I am 5 months post posterior thr and I just

overdid it! I've been walking support free for weeks with the

exception of parking to office (0.7 miles each way with a hill on

the way to the office) so I decided it was time to drop the cane.

That was fine, but yesterday slightly twisted getting out of the car

and ouch! Lower back spasms and back on analgesic pain meds.

It's already easing off. As someone else mentioned, a small blip.

I have no doubt I'll forget and do it again before long. Over confident

and feeling so well.

Having had years of pain preop it's amazing how quickly

you get used to painfree. Boy, did this seem to hurt worse,

even though I knew it couldn't be.
