Hi Hippies,
Further to my last post. I saw the surgeon again last week.
I am five months post op and following on from an incident with my dogs have developed tightness , pain and numbness around the top of my leg groin area and also a lot of pain in my lower back and left buttock.
Had three X-rays all of which looked fine. To be honest I felt as if none of them believed I was in pain!! Outcome is I now have to go for a CT scan to see if I have any tiny bone fractures.
I just hope they can find a reason for this because I am at the end of my tether with it. I have been told to go back on my crutches also and it feels like a massive step backwards.
Looking online as you do to find out reasons there seems to be a few people suffer this with no apparent reason or remedy.
Any ideas??
Lesley, how very frustrating for you. Do you think this could just be a muscle pull? Are you on any muscle relaxers? I have been concerned that my cats or dogs could trip me up, but so far they are being polite.
Hopefully Anne
But I can't even lift my leg to get in the car or go up and down the stairs. I just don't know.
All will out in the end.
Lesley,
Sounds like you were doing great and then kind of fell off the wagon, so to speak. Very sorry for your problem; but some of your description sure sounds like me. I'm coming up 5 months since my second THR and had virtually been doing everything; but kept having some mild pain and hip issues. During the first 30 days, I was back at the doctor's office a couple of times and each time he pronounced the hip fine. I finally decided to look into the suggestion that I had spinal problems. I've now had 2 spinal operation on L4/L5/S1 and still have a random pain episode several times a day. The hip and leg start throbbing and will hardly support my weight. These episodes are generally triggered by sitting for a few minutes and then trying to stand. Thank goodness these episodes are generally fairly short lived if I can force through the pain and get up on my feet. You mentioned "tightness" and I guess I've got that too, oft time when sitting or laying my leg will feel like it's surface has hardened and then a few minutes later, it will be fine. Unfortunately, I've had to go back on pain medication, Tylenol, Aleve, and occasionally a Acetaminophen/Cod; but can't say any of them really help. Just waiting until 9/07/17 to have another surgeon attempt to drain a new cyst and do a steroid injection. Hope this works; but on the positive side, I'm up and about, doing virtually anything between the real pain episodes. Good luck to you in find your solution.
Hi William,
Thanks for replying. I'm sorry to hear about your problems but they sound very similar to my own. Especially how you describe the 'tightness'. My leg is exactly like that first thing in the morning, and so painful until I've walked it off. I am beginning to wonder if it is all stemming from my spine!! Wouldn't be surprised by that at all. Anyway I will see what the scan says.
Hope your surgeon sorts things out for you. Hang in there. We will come right in the end I'm sure. 👍🏻
hi lesley,
so sorry to hear this ... that is a long time to be in that kind of pain -
I think that Ortho surgeons are just looking if the hardware has moved and when nothing shows on x-ray, you are fine ...
Did you have back problems before?
Well, the reason for what you are going through is the unlucky accident with your dogs - my sister's dog ran towards her, then ran in to her and broke her leg ... ,it can be that forceful ..
Hopefully the scan will show the cause of your pain ...
So sorry I don't have anything more to tell you then take it easy - maybe put some hat on the affected areas ?
please come back and keep us updated, okay
big warm hug
renee
