Hi again everyone, does anyone else get a dull ache in the back of their knee after the hip replacement?. (it feels like persistant tooth ache in the back of the knee) I know is is just due to the weight of the leg and that i am not fully mobile on it yet but it is quite uncomfortable and i would say that it is the only pain that is bothering me at the moment 6 days post op. i have tried sticking a support under it, but nothing seems to get rid of it. The pain killers dont even help it. Does anyone else get this kind of pain and what do you do to try and releave it, i do remember having it when i had my left hip done in April.
Hi,
I am two weeks post THR and this has been my biggest pain! Pain killers don't touch it! The only solutions I have so far are pillows under the leg to elevate and most importantly regular ice packs all around the knee - try and do it before bed and in the morning when you are least active. My physio exercises - bending the knee are so painful initially but after a few this seems to help the ache as well. Number one solution is ice though! Good luck.
Hi jo
Agree with the ice. I had a moan to the district nurse when he came to take the stitches out. He had a look and said I had the biggest bruise hd had seen behind my knee. Worth asking someone to have a look maybe

hi jo,
so sorry to hear this ... maybe you were rough handled - does it feel like a muscle or nerve ache? is it swollen ?
is this your 2nd THR surgery/ what did you do about it in April?
apologies for these questions ...
warm big hug

Thanks Renee, my thigh and knee are still slightly swollen but not huge, in April for my left hip I just put a pillow under it and sucked it up, this time I got a lovely proper support pillow and it does help but not enough. It is just a constant dull ache all the time, it will go when I start to do more but would be nice to be able to ease it in the interim, it is the only thing that is making the recovery uncomfortable (suppose I should be grateful for that)
My first THR was in March and I had big bruises around hip and on thigh and calf - I didn't know then how major this surgery realy is - I watched it on you tube and good lord - like watching a home improvement video -
then I found this forum - life saver - I read about how we get handled during surgery .. like disjointing a chicken (sorry if i am too graphic)-
withh the 2nd THR (September) I asked the surgeon right before I went under, if they could be a bit more gentle with me ...
maybe they were, I don't know, but one little bruise around my scar only ...
I know what pain you are talking about - are you taking blood thinners?
Be gentle with your self okay ?
big hug
