Back on citalopram after disastrous attempt at switching to Lovan

I was on 30mg of citalopram for about a year before switching to Lovan as my brother and sister said they had great success on it and as its strongly based on genetics i thought it could be a good move. It didnt go well. I upped the dose too quickly and I ended up in the ER one night begging for help because I was having so many thoughts of self harm. After struggling through another few weeks my therapist said I should switch back to citalopram. Im back up to 30mg after a few weeks but am starting to feel really depressed and having feelings of self harm again. When I first went on citalopram I had some negative thoughts but they seem to be affecting me much more now..

I know I just have to stick it out but im exhausted. I still have to go to work every day and live a normal life, whilst trying to deal with all this.

What other reason did you switch from citalopram? Was it working for you before? If so, I would say if it ain’t broke don’t fix it! As you know it takes a little while for citalopram to work effectively so hang in there - it will get better soon. Take every day as it comes, one at a time.

Switching meds then doses is not very smart.these meds are very serious .good luck
