Back Pain

Hello Community,

I have had severe back pain over some months. I have had MRI scan and shows bulging discs, which in turn is putting presssure on the nerves.

I am due shortly to get both a root nerve injection and also epidural injection.

would appreciate someone being able eto tell me how successful these are and how long they last.

many thanks

Dear alistair95425,

So sorry to hear about your back problems. First thing I will say is that everyone is different & so the injections work for some but not others. If it is not successful, sometimes that acts as an indicator to the Consultant on what surgery may be required to resolve your pain. I ended up having a micro-disectomy as the epidural was regrettably ineffectual. Having said that, I have no regrets as once the surgical recovery was complete there was no more pain and the nerve re-generated to the extent that I had tickelish feet again =) Go through the process and I hope that you get a resolution from your pain very soon!

Best wishes

Thanks Kimb63, for the information, I'll keep everything crossed that the injections work. Not too keen on surgery as I know a couple of people who had severe pain, not sure what was entailed one had rods put into the back and walks with sticks now regrets having op, the other was told it was a 50/50 op so decided not to have. They heard about magnets, got themselves a belt and within days they had an improvement. Not perfect but have been able to get some life again. I have tried the magneets did nothing for me. So as you said sometimes the injections work other times not.

Anyway will wait and see next week, just be nice to drive a car without getting pains and struggling to get out of the car.Would also be nice to do some exercise again, and lose the weight gain Ha!

thanks again

Good luck alistair95425, I will keep my fingers crossed for you. I was lucky with my Consultant as he specialises in spines. I hope his success continues as I have Spondylolisthesis as well as 2 more prolapsed discs and will be undergoing surgery which will involve rods and screws. Have fingers crossed that I will get my mobility back and be pain free once again =)

Best wishes for your future!

Kimb63

these injections are effective for the medium term as usually you need another treatment after a period of time.  The injection will stop electrical activity at the spinal cord where the root nerve is causing you pain thus the pain should disappear hopefully you will feel better
