Back pain

Hi there,

I have

recently been diagnosed with acute cholecystitis and given antibiotics and ultrasound which showed some large gallstones.Although the discomfort and pain has gone from the gallbladder site,I have backache all the time which I have read can be associated with gallbladder problems.I just wondered if anyone can tell me whether this kind of back pain feels like a pulled muscle and gives twinges as you move around, lift things

Etc,or do I actually have a bad back!

I also had bad back pains with my gallstones. It was usually mid to upper back, but mainly between shoulders/ in the shoulder blades. After gallbladder removal, my back pain was gone. Yes, it felt like sharp, stinging pains, that I only could get relief from lying down and a heating pad. I never really had right sided pain with mine, as everyone describes. I had more left sided discomfort. I am having other health issues too, so removal only helped with about 15% of my symptoms.

Yes, backache can be associated with gallbladder as other poster says. It may be referred pain or pain from inflammation which reaches other areas, or due to holding a different posture when we are in pain. I have found my existing arthritis can be irritated by the Gb when it plays up.

Does pain medication help, is it worse or better on moving etc?

If you don't get relief, see the doc again for opinion - if it is back that is out you could have physio etc. Good luck.

PS forgot to say, get blood test vit D levels checked maybe. Mine were very low and we cannot absorb it well with Gb not working - it is fat soluble. Low vit D can make  aches and pains worse.
