I'm 6 weeks post op bunion surgery on one foot with internal fixation big toe and foot, and although the first week to 10 days was very painful I have to say I'm happy with my recovery im not very patient so have made sure ive done everything I was told from surgeon re elevate ice etc, once bandage came off I did the deep massage which also has helped yes I still get pain and swelling but the pain isn't constant so I deal with it as and when, been to occupational health today and have been told by physio I can go back to work next week on phased return so I'll be in short hours for cpl weeks with breaks enabling me to put ice on if swelling gets too much also been allowed to wear my running trainers which hold my foot in all the right places, hopefully all will be good as can't wait to get back to normal ish and next hurdle will be getting more shoes to wear other than trainers, physio was very happy with movements in my foot and how I was doing exercises so Monday sees me back to work just short of 7 weeks post op 😁 will let you know how it goes I know I'll wv nervous of anyone standing on my toe or me knocking my foot so will be more cautious to start with how have others found work? Post op ?
I had a bunionectomy in dec2014 and as it was actually just the bump shaved off I was up and about after 2 weeks fully mobile but it has taken longer to get normal shoes for sure , still swelling !
Bump has gone but toe is still drifted so time will tell if just having the bump removed was worth it all
I am today 7days post op on my left from a chevron
Surgery and am only minimal weight bearing in a cast , not sure if I have pins or not , possibly!
Such a more painful surgery that right foot which is to be expected as the bone is cut into !
Had a bit of a nightmare with painkillers first few days as they made me very sick and didn't address the pain!
Post op appt on Tuesday April 14 so I am anxious to see what's what !?
I had a bunion removed along with a tendon cut and a gangleon removed, I am now 8 weeks post op and retuned to work last week although it shouldn't be til next Monday. I am fine, it is sometimes quite stiff in the morning, and some mornings I find driving a little difficult to start with. Work is fine, although I do know what you mean about being nervous of anyone knocking your foot!! Footwear is the worse - I am currently wearing espadrilles which seem the most comfortable but this can change daily. On Tuesday I put my post op boot back on as my foot had swollen. I haven't had any specific advise from my surgeon other than just steadily resume normality, which is what I am doing, and some days I get pain others not...some days I walk better than others...I think this is how it has to be - one day at a time, and follow the advise of your body, if it hurts rest it, and don't do or expect too much too soon. Walk before you can run!!
Thank you its good to hear how other people get on back at work, I usually do 12 half hour shifts but I'm starting back on phased return as my job means I'm on my feet whole shift (work on busy hospital ward) but be nice to get back to normal, today I've walked for little bit longer and same as you some days better than others, can't wait to get normal shoes on in meantime trainers for work which are more comfortable, will let you know how Monday goes x
