A positive post for a change!! I went to see the consultant for 12 week check on Friday. All is well, almost no limp now. He gave me the all clear to resume all activities (carefully) I was doing before THR. I went to Zumba 💃 (A form of dance) for the first time tonight. The new hip behaved well - not sure about me though!! I had to slow it down a bit and alter the moves that involve twisting and extending the new hip. Back to work full time next Monday. It feels like life is finally returning to normal. Pain is minimal now, sleep is nearly normal. All in all feeling great.
I wouldn't have said this a couple of weeks ago, but I would not hesitate to have my other one done
Congratulations. Well done. Do continue to take care of that precious joint of yours because it will still be vulnerable for quite a time more. Worth remembering that if you harm it you will have to live with the consequences.......not your surgeon!
Well done! But do please be careful - I injured myself doing Aquafit at four months post THR. I was so pleased with my progress I got carried away - I think it was the repeated jarring action when jogging in water that did it. I had to go back to using a stick and painkillers for a couple of weeks - fortunately no lasting damage done, but I learnt my lesson. Please take it easy and be gentle with your new hip!
I have been slowly doing a few hours a day for a couple of weeks, and this week I am going to gradually increase my hours, so that by Monday I will be doing an 8 hour day. I usually work 12 hour days ( it is my business so inevitably you work lots of hours!) but don't intend to do that for a few weeks. I am a bit lame this morning after Zumba last night and 5 hours work this morning. The surgeon warned me I may had to go back to using one crutch and resting in between work and exercise😊 So that is what I am currently doing. Sitting at home with my grandson watching films!!
I have been doing aquafit too😊 I do try to be careful, but your right it is easy to get carried away and overdo it!! I just want to be fit again and lose some more of my big thighs!! I carry all my weight on my hip and thighs and have been steadily losing weight over the last 2 years (8 stone so far), but over the last 12 weeks I have ground to a halt, I need to lose another 2 stone and feel far more motivated if I am exercising too. Bless my surgeon - he keeps telling me I need to lose the last 2 stone to make the new hip last longer. He kept telling me the tissue (he was too polite to say fat!!😂 on my thighs made the operation more complex and healing slower. I keep telling him it's fine to refer to them as fat thighs!! I will need the other one doing at some point so I need to lose the last bit of weight to avoid the "fat thighs issue""
