6 weeks since my dislocation of TRHR & im here again, in bed fed up, legs & feet on fire & swollen & STILL wearing this awful body brace, I'll probably fall asleep again around 2/3am, can't sleep on my back! I've taken Dihydracodeine, Co-dydramol, Gabapentin & Amitryptaline & that was 3hrs ago! I can take the lot again in hour if I want! Think I may go stark raving mad!! I tried to put some washing on, dropped it on the floor & bent down to pick it up!! Forgetting for that 2nd!! Jeez!! I felt a rip inside!! Now got stabbing pains on my outer thigh! Beginning to wish I'd never had it done now! Anyone else suffered a dislocation? I had it manipulated back in, just over 3 weeks after the initial op!
Omg Julie so sorry for how much you are suffering.
I can't imagine going through a dislocation on top of new THR. Then more pain on top of that!!.
Your muscles haven't even healed yet. The dislocation probably cause injury again or better having it put back in by the doctor caused them to be more stretched. I pray you still continue to heal.blessings to you xxx![]()
Thanks ginger, Still wide awake! Trying to relax is impossible, I spend hours watching rubbish films & stuff! I try to myself that there's people out there worse off than me, at least I can walk,& not confined to a wheelchair. This is just so frustrating. Anyway thanks for your kind words. Take care 😔
I'll be keeping u in my thoughts and prayers.
Poor you. You have had such a hard time though.
I can't sleep on my back either. I feel totally worn out with an aching backside from so much sitting and sore heels from lying on my back. I have never watched so much TV.
I do hope you get to sleep. Selfishly I'm hoping I do too! I seem to manage to doze...
Hi Julie they told me that you can only have it put back once...So I strongly advise you to reorganise your life for the next three months around yourself, and stuff anyone else, do not bend over the 90 degs at all, use the grabbers even if you think you are capable, just dont do it, think of yourself as a butterfly, that needs three months to grow new wings, or you will never recover properly, ask for help, ask others to help or just give up and sit down, dont do it!! You have to be firm about this... with yourself, and your family, so please get it right this time or you will really mess yourself about, this surgery is SERIOUS!!!, yes the underplay it in Hospital, and are Blazzey....because so many folks get it right, so please get it right....think a bit more, your are in a state of big time repair!! so please Repair Properly.
You just have to leave the mess...leave the washing, and any mess, for someone else, and take trammies, + Paracetomol, + Amatrypiline, even 10 mgs, of that if you hate the dreams, dont try that amount again but it will nod you off I am sure...my GP says thay are not addictive so a double dose of 5mg to 10 mgs is not going to harm you, from time to time, and you will sleep, just please get it right this time around....
Love and kindest regards Ian.

Hi Julie,
I hope aou are feeling better by now. I am very sorry for what you have to go through. Do you know why you had the dislocation? What type of THR did you get? Posterior approach?
You will go through it, nothing lasts forever, that is what I like to tell to myself.
Be easy on yourself and try to imagin your healing process speeding up every moment!
I wish you the best!
Hi Ian, wow! That was some lecture! Lol. I know what your saying but, I just can't help it! I'm here on my own for most of the day, I'm so used to doing everything & it's a hard habit to break. As for my medication, I take 50mg of Amitryptiline every night, 1200mg Gabapentin, 1000mg Co-dydramol & 30mg Dihydracodeine, this helps me sleep for about 3 - 4hrs, I've given up with my G.P's, it took them 2yrs of constant pestering from me to get me to this stage! I will take heed of what you've said though Ian. Thank you. 😔
Hi Anci, I had the anterior thr. As for the dislocation, at 1st I blamed it on myself for doing too much too soon, my surgeon has said that my muscles were so weak on that side as I hadn't been using them, I've been walking with a stick for 2 yrs waiting to find a diagnosis, anyway here I am! 6 weeks behind me & having read lots of other people's experience, I promise I'll take it easy from now on. Thank you 😎
Good morning Julie and I really hope it is for you - so sorry that you are in so much pain - oh, and not being able to sleep doesn't make one a ray of sunshine either ... Ian's lecture (;-)) is sound advice to me too - I am 9 weeks post-op and the 90* rule is lifted - however, when I do bend down to pick something of the floor, I can feel stabs and the hardware in joint and thigh - so,back to the grabber ...in additon to our physical challenges after THR, it seems that we also have to deal with our emotions ... letting go of so many thing and accept where we are right now is soooo hard !!!! ask for help, being dependent, and oh, the pride !!! always wanting to do it myself ---- so, stop beating your self up - be gentle with your self and kind .. like you are your best friend ---- take it easy - agree that there is rubbish on tv .... I am in Holland and a recent transplant from Los Angeles and can't believe the programs they show here ....big hug
P.S. I am 9 weeks post op -
Morning Julie, I hope you managed to get some sleep eventually. I feel for you, I didn't sleep for the first two weeks but for some reason my body seems to have accepted that it can sleep on its back with discomfort in the lower back, middle back and neck! That or I am just so totally knackered! I have had terrible difficulty not tending to the household chores and must admit that I have make some chores part of my exercise regime ....for instance doing side steps leading with my bad leg to get around the kitchen work tops to wipe them down. Similar thing with the dusting. I too do the washing and ironing but sit down and complete in small stages I take this time to do my buttock squeezes and leg slides. I did ask my doctor and physio and they said so long as I feel up to it and I don't break the restrictions it is fine to continue but to also rest when my body tells me. So I suppose the moral of this post is ........ do what you can without breaking the rules and take plenty of rest and most importantly do your exercises to strengthen those muscles.
hope you have a better day x

Oh Julie, so very sorry for you! what a dreadful thing to happen. I really hope you make a full recovery very soon. I can't begin to imagine what a dreadful time you are going through. Sending healing thoughts and gentle hugs. xx
Hi Julie that sounds like a lot of drugs going in your system, and I have to say from my own expierience in hospital I was horrified that I had to take Naproxin + Tramadol and Paracetamol, all at the same time, and with only a few buscuits instead of a nice sandwich to line the stomach, now I am home I take a 500mg Naproxin once a day whenever the pain gets bad, they do build up in the system well my system, and I just top up perhaps every 10 to twelve hours, in between, I use two 50mg Tramadols, I do the stand up excercises every hour to hour and a half, I am sleeping quite well on one 5mg Amytryptaline, for a normal six to seven hours kip, and dose in my recliner at odd times in the day, but I was quite strong before the operation with no wasting caught it just at the right time as I have no hips left at all bone on bone...left side is now worse than the right sidw was, the surgeon told me to have the left done first if I wanted, but I felt the right was the worst, I am left sided, so I need the left one done as soon as is possible now I can really feel it compared to the corrected right one.
I think you need to try another doctor or try the tramadol drug as it is such a good painkiller.
Hope that you are better soon and looking forward to reading more of your post here.
Kindest regards Ian.
GREETINGS FROM ACROSS THE POND.,
Please be careful if one of your medications are another name for Tylenol.b/c 1000mg a day of that can make injury to your liver.
Some of medications in your country are called different in the U.S.. Check it out with your doctor or on the internet.
Remember all medications have side effects that can be deadly.and some combinations that your on together are frightening to me.
Like amitriptyline and Dihydracodine. Maybe one day you won't wake up easily or at all.
Can you check this out with pharmacy or doctor or at least internet.please be safe..
Hi,Anci, I also had anterior THR. I chose this method because it is rare for dislocation.
The two others dislocation is more common.
I'm one year post op never had a problem.
Hope all goes well for you too.xxx
I looked it up Dihydracodeine in my country is Panlor comes in 16&32mg
DHC plus is also 16&42mg
This medication can also have paracetamol in your country my country acetaminophen or called tylenol. That is the one that is toxic to the liver.
Plus over the counter medications also have it in the cough sinus meds.
So be careful with Dihydracodeine by itself or adding over the counter meds with it.lol
Hi julie! Omg! Poor you! Try to keep positive! You will come through this ! I am nearly 11weeks and even now still feel bruised! But its a very major op! Many people have said it can take 6 to 12 months to recover! Good luck and listen to your body!! Regards Amanda
Thanks renee, good luck with your recovery too.
Thank you Pam, I wish you well with your recovery too. X
