I have just recently gone from not having to worry too much about giving up any of my bad health habits. To having to give up all of them!
Coffee
Coke
Smokes
Fat of my steak
Salt
Chocolate
Sugar

This list will never end. BOO HOO

Hi Gloria, out of that list I have:
Coffee
Pepsi
Salt
Chocolate
Sugar
KFC (I dont eat food from there, so I go across the road to MacDonalds!) LOL
Is there a reason why you have to give so much up? I used to smoke, I gave that up 3 years ago this month.
Regards,
Les.
My New Year's resolution was NOT to give up any of my bad habits.
Coffee, tea, the odd gin and bitter lemon. chocolate, crisps, nuts. Mad perhaps, but I also want to enjoy the rest of my life. Will watch for any bad signs though - I'm not completely past it!!!
Immediately on being diagnosed with prostate cancer my wife began overhauling my diet.
Step one: one vegan, no dairy
Then coffee and black tea out and green tea in (make this correctly and it is pleasant: incorrectly and it is bitter and hardly drinkable)
Fizzy drinks never in
Wine etc out
Fruit first in meal instead of last
from radiotherapy start occasional egg, fish and chicken
water out filtered to alkaine water in
vit B12 and D3 in
3x1000mg vit C in
Raw vegetable smoothie daily in
Urine testing to ensure alkaline
That is what I can manage off the top of my head. and just so all that is really appitising I have anorexia. Now ain't that just great.
At last someone who is normal. mmm perhaps I should take lessons, except .... I have grown to like some aspects of my new diet.
animal fat is not as bad for you as they used to say and better for you then most vegatbles fats coconut oil being the exception .
SUGAR is the killer . and processed foods and smokes .
good luck .you didnt say why you had to give them up .
Hi Les
Yes I have a good reason, the hospital has just taken me of palliative care and put me back on active care. In Australia palliative care means “p*ss off there is nothing we can do for you!” They did however drag me in for test every three months as I was part of a number of research projects, I never got any results or even spoke to a cardiologist. My doctor had requested the results as well and never received them. I refused to go for any more tests until I had the results of the previous tests by a cardiologist.
Unfortunately I seen the same cardiologist that was so rude to me when I was in hospital. He was extremely rude and asked what I was doing coming and seeing him. He avoided telling me any of the results and said the nurse would explain. He did however say my life expectancy had gone from 6mths to 5+ years and referred me to the heart failure clinic. Fortunately I am able to change hospitals and see a different cardiologist.
They laughed at me when I said I would live until I am at least 60 I am getting a lot closer to proving myself right!
Cheers,
Gloria
Hi constance,
Thank you for reminding me, mine was to do whatever I wanted. I have joked it would be my undoing if I did everything right. I can’t really see myself doing it to well I was eating crackling today.
Cheers,
Gloria
Hi george did you notice I just got one of my coments sent to be moderated. Oops I didnt mean to swear!
Gloria
Hi Tiswas
It is due to my heart. I think the moderator will put the post up tomorrow. I agree with you that it sugar that is really bad. My doctor said he did not think I would have had the heart attack (blood clot) even though I smoke if it was not for drinking too much coke.
I tried coconut oil for Fibromyalgia but could not stand the taste of it thank goodness. It is strange how they chop and change their mind of what is alright to eat.
Regards
Gloria
Some saturated fat and some colesterol is needed, essential indeed.
Sugar is difficult to avoid but processed food is easily spotted.
If we get serious about this there are problems if we are in the habit of eating out frequently. How healthy is restauant food? How many factory products do resaurants serve as if home cooked?
It is all so complicated that I use an old way of thinking. Use many things in moderation. That way we may not go too far off course. How many times has the media urged us to a certain course or warned us from another only to announce to opposite a few months later?
Strange, Gloria I answered you first and my post went into moderation! Now, I'm lost that contained no urls!
No I missed that. A while ago I put in a prohibited word although right enough in context. My text was released in a few days with one of the letters changed to an asterisk. I expect your text will be changed in that sort of way. then anyone who does not know the naughty word will be shielded and the rest of us will know what you wrote.
So don't feel bad about it. Little by little we learn.
Okay, bad day it was Gloria's post not mine in moderation! LOL
Reading Tiswas note I think she is saying coconut oil is good but most vegetable oils / fats are not.
I would add that animal fat needs to be organic because of the fertilisers and sprays for the grass and the hormones and antibiotics for the animals that are not organic...
what ever they have a surples of they will try and flog you as healty
the coconut oil i use is taste and ordur free .the one that taste of coconut is the one used to replace butter . and spreads
.the name of the one i use is ktc pure coconut oil it has no taste of coconut i use it in my chip pan , and for frying because it does not become harmful after use like vegatable fats do . you can use it in baking as well . half and half
if you like pancakes u can make them with just spring water and flour no eggs , let the mixture stand over night and fry as normal .save the fat and calories of the eggs .
another thing that helped some people is getting hold of a war diet i did find it on line once helped people loose a load of weight and keep full.
but you have to be active because its high in carbs but not fats and sugar . iv used several recipes from my war time cook book really good some of them . i esp like the war time beetroot cake sounds horriable but i love it and i am fussy . my dog liked it to .
Good Night everyone,
It is now 4am and I should have been in bed hours ago. It has been good talking to all of you.
Sweet dreams dear Gloria
Hi George,
I got my results back from the Abdominal and testes Ultrasound and blood tests. I think I said my doctor wasn't sure about something she seen on the scan, so she sent it back to my Urologist for a second opinion.
Blood tests showed up a infection but that could be still the pleurisy in my system from before Christmas. The Ultrasound results were a little different, she pointed out a small polyp on the Epidermis, so shes asked me to keep an eye on it. She said the prostate was clear, with just a bit of calcium in it, which is normal for my age, and my liver had a bit of fat around it, but nothing to worry about. But she is keeping an eye on the infection that showed up, so shes booked me in Tuesday for more blood tests.
Apart from all that I'm not too bad...
Regards,
Les.
PS - Gloria, sorry I messaged George on your thread but I did say to him that I would keep George up to date with my recent tests, for prostate cancer.
Thank you Les. Very glad to see you contributing again. I was beginning to get anxious about you. Trust you are not too bad.
PM me please if you wish to reply
