Hi. I had a TURP procedure about 3 months ago. I was sore afterward, and was told it would go away within a few weeks.
Long story short, I have had 2 cystoscopies since then, one in office and a second in hospital, to ‘scrape’ away deposits. He did find quite a bit in the second cystoscopy, and thought for sure that would ‘fix’ me.
It didn’t.
The reason for the Turp in the first place was because i was having frequent UTI’s. Before the procedure, I was having no pain, no blood in the urine, virtually never got up at night, and while I had some urgency, it was nothing like what I have now.
My prostate size was 128, they reduced it to about 80.
I now urinate frequently, usually small amounts, it is painful every time, the urgency is like 3-5 seconds, and, needless to say, I am miserable. It also hurts when sitting down. I am using a donut pillow, but it gives me only minimal relief.
They check for infections each time after the TURP and after the 2 Cystoscopies, they have found nothing.
He recently said my Prostate doesn’t seem to be getting enough blood flow also. If I’m remembering right, he said something about an infection that can ‘hide’ in the Prostate that might be very difficult to eliminate.
I have taken various drugs, most recently a version of Prednisone and another called Doxycycline.
I finished the course of the prednisone drug, nothing changed. I am still taking the Doxycycline, about 5 days so fa with another 6 days to go.
Any advice greatly appreciated, I feel like I am at the end of my rope.
You have the symptoms of a UTI. The best way for you would be to check to see if you have urinary retention. It might be the cause of the repeated UTI’s.

I know what you are going through. I have had 2 TURP’s so far and
the reason was a congential blockage in the bladder outlet area, discovered
when it was too late, to prevent chronic bladder and prostrate infections
this has been most all my adult life now. I am now 84 and my first TURP was when I was 26
the second was when I was 78. of course some of the problem is enlarged prostrate too
anyway its ongoing, sorry to say !
