woke up to a slight pain while peeing and almost fell off the toilet after seeing this on my penis head. the meatus appears to be slightly swollen as well. i had just gotten tested for std's last month, everything negative, and have only had sexual relations with the same individual for the past three months (we are exclusive) so I don't think it is an std. Just wanted an opinion on if anyone might think it is balanitis or something else and how to possibly treat it before heading back to the doctor, as i am swimming in medical bills

That is a possibility that is it. Get a fungal cream and try it. You can get one for under $5. If that is not it it may be your gland has been rubbing on your under ware. I get that sometimes.
Do get something and put it on. If it is not Balanitis the cream will help it.

i agree with the answers below my husband works in the heat and gets this he uses fungal cream and baby powder.
u should still visit a doctor for std testing as herpes can cause similar sores and it dosnt always show up straight away

I have something similar to this as well. I am still trying to figure it out. Seems like it goes away and comes back.
My doctor tested for gonorrhea and it came back neg.
I got tested for herpes twice and both times hsv1 and hsv2 came back neg
Dear anon, There appear to be multiple discrete superficial ulcers around the meatus (pee hole); while technically it is balanitis, the cause in your case could be genital herpes. (So I agree with kim.)
It may be too late to take a swab for herpes, now that it's scabbing. Maybe do that if it recurs. Does your partner have a history of cold sores (may have infected you from oral sex) or genital herpes?
Thrush (candida) is another possibility, but tends to be more widespread (i.e. affects the entire surface of the glans) and it is ITCHY not painful, as in your case.

I did schedule another test but the earliest they can see me is thursday. the ulcers never opened, oozed leaked or even were irate until i had to pee, and it was only painful because the meatus was swollen ish but i have not had any feeling in following bathroom breaks. the reason i had originally thought it was just balanitis is i had gone for a lengthy bike ride the day before in very hot weather and my (tight) briefs were especially soaked from sweat when i got back. thank you for your input as i will keep that in mind if it does happen again, im now wondering if going thursday would be pointless if its too late
