Having been on Mirtazapine for 12 months - and having read extensively about the drug and it’s effects both going on it - being on it and withdrawing from it - does anyone else agree it simply shouldn’t be prescribed?
I’ve read the posts on the forums here too and we all seem to have such an awful time with it.
I’ve just reduced from 30mg to 15mg my GP advised cold turkey ! “Sure you’ll feel truly awful - but get it over and done with “ 🤨
Just thinking out loud ....
At least the doc is honest that you will feel awful.
I am tapering down from 45....on 35 atm.
I hate this drug.
I said the same thing about Diazepam, nitemare to come off in comparison to Mirtazipine.
Yes Rob, it should never have been available in the first place.
Most of you will have been told there are NO withdrawal side effects when stopping mirtazapine. Most of you will have been told antidepressants are NOT addictive.
The Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) have a system to monitor the effects and safety of medicines and their side effects. This system is called the Yellow Card. They receive thousands of reports submitted by the general public every year.
I have submitted a yellow card report detailing the very nasty withdrawal side effects mirtazapine has left me with. The more of us that report this drug, the more likely drugs such as these will investigated more seriously.
This is an easy process.
The Yellow Card website is www.mhra.gov.uk/yellowcard
Good luck with it Sarah - def the best way to go to get off them
Wow really ? Even worse than Mirtaz? That’s awful - are you on mirtazapine now u mean?
It's criminal that there is no support network for all patients attempting to taper and stop this drug. An ex heroin addict confessed that it was easier to withdraw from heroin than it was to withdraw from mirtazapine and he had gone through both experiences
I am on both.
Tapering mirt first
How was the diazepam worse ?
Heroin is really not that bad to come off if you taper. 2 to 4 weeks it can be rough. Taper can be quite fast.
AD s are much worse.
I felt better cold turkey than actually on the tablets
Thanks Christine I didn’t know about that but I will do this thankyou - we all should - maybe post this on a new thread and get everyone on here yellow carding ?!
Really? I didn’t know that either ! Learning so much from this forum!
That’s interesting Dawn .. I missed one day last week - had the clearest head the following day I’ve had in years! Everyone was commenting .. took the next tablet as usual .. lethargy returns - vivid dreams ... and so on
How did you go with cold turkey?
In my experience, without a doubt. Diazepam withdrawal caused - anxiety, tremors, mood swings, insomnia, etc etc for at least 4 weeks.
Mirtazipine caused me 2 broken nights sleep & a sore stomach.
When I dropped from 15 to 7.5 I felt much better, I'm sure I'll be even better when off altogether 👍
That’s great to hear Brenda! Any side effects at all?
Just couldn't sleep at night but knackered all day long sore bones aswell but much better in around a week and a half
Yep. I have detoxed from heroin toi many times. Not nicebut not that bad. It is pretty predictable and short compared to AD withdrawals. Benzos are the worst of all
I've just posted the link to the yellow card on a new thread
