hi all my name is sean im 36 white bristish male... i have been suffering tremendously for years with stomach pain...
i have been told i have hiatus hernia and half a centermenter of barretts, thos was 4 years ago.. i am due to have another test done under general to investigate... i suppose i am scared to death of cancer and thinking the worse. my diet and habits have never been great .
so i have constant preasure in my stomach center below chest and the pressure feels like its pressung on my throat.... i have had scans kn my throat and cam down my nose and all was fine, all my blood tests come back normal ... when i take a deep breath i can feel thr pressure all up my osophagus into my throat. it becomes very tight and almost like a copper taste on my mouth...
i am taking opeprasol 40mg daily,
i am constantly burping my chest feels up with air i need to turn on my left side to release gasses.... my osophagus feels very tender.. i feel very odd. dizzy not with it... the worry has made me anxiouse depressed amd fearful of cancer and death ....my poor kids whitness this.... please someone help me with advice anyone same problems that has had reaults good results fixable ? anyones storys....

question.... can berium swollow detect stomach cancer????? im suffering and mentally destroyed... i feel less of man im becoming unbareable to live with.. .panoc attacks are so bad... im desperate to be right and someone to tel me im ok
I believe that you recently posted under a different user name. Trust me, if you had a cancer large enough to cause the symptoms that you describe, the doctors would be able to find it easily. It sounds more like you’re suffering from stress and panic attacks. If you have a hiatal hernia then definitely get it repaired. Otherwise, get help for the anxiety and be thankful that you’re young enough to change your habits and live a long and healthy life.

Hi Sean2018 I had similar to you 20 years ago now, I asked for a fundoplication it was the best thing I ever had, I recommend you do the same, if not for your own peace of mind.
Believe me if it was there they would pick it up with the procedures you’ve already had, you seem to be getting yourself in such an anxious state about it which is understandable, as the other message suggested it sounds like your wellbeing is being overshadowed by anxiety and depression, be kind to yourself and go to your Doctor and explain how you’re feeling I would also ask, as you’ve had Barrett’s like I had with the same symptoms that you ask for the procedure I mentioned, the best thing I ever did, no symptoms at all and no trace of Barrett’s after 20 years, after the op it’s uncomfortable for about three months but well worth it, address your anxiety and depression first and do yourself the biggest favor you could be possible do and have the op, try to keep positive there is a solution, you will be well again and symptom free, be kind to yourself and address the cause first. thank you so much becky and Tom, your wise words are comforting… Tom can i ask, did you have problems breathing in deep? did it feel like your throat was being pulled from your stomach? last night i had a late dinner laid on my left side but the pain was like someone was on fire in my heart area… i am extreamly bad pain and discomfort, i cannot walk up the stairs without pain and low breathing. throat closing, chest pain upper left shoulder feels like my bowle is trapped to… tom did you say u had barrets?

Hi Tom, I found your response to Sean’s post very encouraging and reassuring. And sensible.I don’t know whether everyone with Barretts has a hiatal hernia, but it seems an awful lot do. And as the prevailing wisdom has it that hiatal hernia facilitates reflux and reflux facilitates Barrett’s, I don’t understand why they don’t just give a fundoplication immediately to anyone who has both a hiatal hernia and also Barrett’s. All the medication seems to have horrible side effects and seems like they are just giving you something to assuage the symptoms while you hang around in the waiting lounge. Also, it must be better to do any sugery as young as possible. From what I have read most fundoplication surgery has a very successful outcome while almost all osephageal cancer does not. When I asked my physician he said there are too many complications with surgery so they would only do it if imperative, but I argued the old saw that prevention must be better than the cure. I have short segment non-dysplastic Barrett’s and a hiatal hernia. But no obvious symptoms. I would appreciate anyone’s thoughts…

I had a hiatal hernia repair and Nissan’s fundoplicaton 10 years ago. I also feel that it was the best decision that I ever made. In my case, I’d had Barrett’s for 20 years and was taking large doses of acid blockers. I suffered from severe indigestion starting in my early 20s.
I didn’t have any complications from the fundoplication, but I’ve heard of some that do. The surgery won’t necessarily “cure” the Barrett’s or protect you from cancer. You’ll still need to be checked regularly so that anything suspicious can be biopsied. It’s much better to catch cancer at a Stage 1 before it is causing any symptoms at all.
You might get a 2nd opinion on the fundoplication and do some research for yourself. Definitely keep an eye on the Barretts and don’t neglect your regular endoscopies.

Thank you Becky - that is really helpful and I take your point even a “successful” outcome from a fundoplication does not guarantee one can rest entirely easy, but it does seem to reverse Barrett’s in a number of cases (even though I guess some long term damage may already have been done?); but if the reflux is contained it must at least help prevent additional damage being done?

I believe it was 3.81 cm and it was pretty serious, I was tested again one month after the operation and all traces of Barrett’s had gone! I was elated, since then no recurrence whats so ever after 20 years, the best thing I ever did, there is a solution so try not to beat yourself up worrying, be proactive and speak to your Doctor, make it happen, you can if you want to be symptom free I know I did.
Oh! and another thing is, never ever since my operation have I needed or used Lansoprazole, omeprazole or pain killers which I used frequently to ease the pain, go for it, you’ll thank me later, do it for your emotional well being and your gut. Take Care & all the very best

They won’t do the operation as it’s costly and much cheaper to keep you on Med’s I insisted I wanted it, I did the research, demand it you only get one chance in life you’ll be off all that crappy medicine in no time whats a couple of months being uncomfortable for a life time free of Barretts, Hiatal Hernia and GORD, do yourself the best favor in the world and demand it, I did. Yes I did have Barrett’s and the pain too, I also had a Stomach Ulcer & Chronic Gastritis, most if not more of your symptoms, pains shooting up through my neck and Jaw and through my back and shoulders, lying down was impossible and I would wake with horrific pain, so much so I was given double strength codeine to help, which didn’t touch the pain, I was very, very poorly.
It Sounds like you may have Dysphagia caused by scarring from the Barrett’s , as I’m not a Doctor and treating you it’s only a guess but sounds very much like it, an endoscopy & An esophageal motility study or esophageal manometry (A simple test, where by a small tube is inserted through the nasal passage into your gut and monitored for 24hr by a small device fitted to your belt, you will be sent home for the 24hr period, uncomfortable but tolerable) this would establish the cause, if your Doctor has not carried these procedures out then ask for them, if they refuse change your Doctor immediately, remember Dysphagia is not life threatening it’s just a symptom of the cause, treat the cause and the symptoms will subside.
Of course breathing will be affected by Esophageal/Diaphragmatic hernia issues depending on severity, but there may also be other issues at play, maybe a proper heart and lung check up is in order too, do it!!! that is not a conclusion it’s a suggestion I don’t want you to worry at all as you sound anxious as it is, just go for a consultation and also explain your present state of mind that certainly won’t help and worrying will not Help you it’s a complete waste of your energy and will only make you worse, imagining all sorts of non existent health issues.

Try not to worry to much it really is all part and parcel of your condition, believe me you can be rid of this but its up to you to be proactive, do it for yourself, nobody else, be kind to yourself for once, don’t worry it will only put you in spin, what’s the point! It will achieve nothing, do something, change it now, believe me if you have been free of Barretts four years then you won’t have it, but! just to make sure have the op, put a an end to this worry once and for all, try not to worry buddy, its none productive, just take action, do the right thing. i am going try my best… its so hard to think positive when im in so much discomfort daily. few other people telling me its not reversable? i have appointment with a specialist next week and will discuss, all my blood results came back fine but that would ruel put the c word right? full blood count done said they wasnt worried a out my heart… i get these pains and im crippled.. i couldnt walk 3 flights of stairs without almost passing out. yet lungs clear they say…? sorry u been so helpful already this is the inly place i can go and feel comforted…
All sounds good to me Sean2018 and yes, if they found any abnormality with your Bloods they would have you in straight away, believe you me, in a flash so you can safely say thats all okay.,so they have eradicated other conditions too, that’s Great! so time to deal with the pain, could it be Chronic Gastritis now that is very painful, are you taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) as these aggravate the Stomach Lining and can cause Gastritis, ask you Dr for strong painkillers to get you through the night, then as I have mentioned, tell them you want to have the Fundoplication procedure, of course their are risks as there are in any kind of operation, after I had mine I had difficulty eating solids as the wrap was too tight, I went back in hospital and they loosened it, simple, sooooooo worth it, remember that was 20 years ago, no symptoms, no medication, no more reflux, no more pain, its brilliant! I guess the only drawback with this op, if you can call it that lol! Is you may find it difficult to vomit never bothered me, I’d rather not vomit than have that pain again and also your Stomach can bloat occasionally but not excessively, apart from that it’s the best decision I ever made.

the cam down the nose to the stomach ill question today… i have hospital today to discuss having general for the endoscope. so scared about this procedure and obviously the outcome.
im 36 and my luck is bad and i feel negative concerned i may have lived such a unhealthy life.
tom when you took in deep breaths sis you ever experiance tension in your throat amd chest and stomach ? heart looked at lungs x ray and all seems fine.
i have a stupid cough all the time and been coughing plem with bits blood looks like vains… ive become very frightened to be left alone any pain triggers a panic attack my heart goes… i get very hot and i think the worst.
if i have the operation will i ever be able to work out ?
