Hi Clare,
Insist on a telephone conversation with your consultant to get the full explanation. That's what I did.
Hi Claire,
Assuming the biopsies confirm this (and that there's no dysplasia present), the description of your Barrett's can be translated as follows: The shape of the Barrett's area shows two tongues from your Oesophago-Gastric Junction (where the oesophagus meets the stomach) at 32 cm from your teeth.
The C2M2 records the measurements using the Prague criteria. C2 means there's a circumferential band of 2 cm width and the M2 means the maximumm length at any point is 2 cm.
Being less than 3cm this will be classed as "short segment" Barrett's and the normal treatment/surveillance protocol according to BSG guidelines will be to continue PPIs at lowest effective dose and to receive endoscopic surveillance every 3 to 5 years.
Non Dysplastic Barrett's has a very low risk of progression to cancer of approximately 0.5% p.a. I've had my 3cm for at least 21 years with no change.
All the best
Chris
Hi Chris thanks so much for your speedy reply which has been very reassuring. You should be charging for your help! Will let you know what the biopsy result is but I am hopeful it will be clear of any changes.
Many thanks
Claire
Hi Andy
Thanks for the reply. I will definitely speak to him if I can when he discusses the biopsy results. I originally saw him privately but my follow ups have to be on nhs.
