Week 3 post anterior RTHR. Beach walk this morning then to see the surgeon. He's happy with how I'm doing. Cleared to cycle and swim and do 'normal things' as he said. I'm going to see a sports physio as the hospital physio is very general and I want to get my fitness back.
asked about future....yes I can ski, do sports. Running not recommended. I asked him about the evidence and he agreed there isn't enough in terms of how many revisions are done on young people following hip replacement. Because I'm young he did say that there is evidence that hips do wear and he does not recommend long distance. If I have to he suggested short runs, low intensity once or twice a week max. That will do me nicely!!!
Doesn't need to see me for a year, but also said if I develop a problem to go back sooner rather than later.
I went home on crutches, a week later had outpatients appointment and went onto a stick. Only really used the stick for out of the house, so I could walk further and as a visual for others as I worried about tripping etc. Inside the house I went without. Have now dropped the stick.
I have been doing flat walks but today there were 2 gradual inclines.
Now I've had the all clear from the surgeon I'll be careful but feel more confident to do more π
Great news Georgie! Good for you. I guess that's the benefit too of having the anterior approach, besides being fit/active prior to the need for surgery and a good attitude
I'm also 3 wks in but not seeing my consultant for another fortnight, and I had more trad posterior so not so far down the track as you. Hope you find a good physio who will help you build things up. (Just don't go crazy! )
PS Georgie you mentioned skiing .... skiing next Feb/March is my key mid-term target so would be interested in any exercises that help to get ready for this!
