Because so many Post Titles are negative

I'm healing wonderfully these days.  Today it is Day 10 since surgery.  Two week follow up is Monday so I'm looking forward to hearing "you're on the right track, stay the course" but one thing is certain...I am tired all the time now since day 8.  I have to take some long naps, sleeping just fine at night 8 hours but the naps!.  I have never had such sleepiness so I guess I must owe it to surgery and healing.  Anyone else notice this?

Hi, Glad to hear that you are doing very well.  Don't worry about being tired during the early weeks, as this is perfectly normal.  Your body has been through a lot and will take time to heal.  Best wishes

Hi, I am 2 weeks today since my surgery. Feeling much better but like you sooo tired and taking long naps! Healing whilst sleeping 😊 x

I don’t think posts on here are negative, it’s a safe place to discuss what is going on after surgery. I’m glad you are going well & wish you the best. It’s often not straight forward for people & it can be a lonely journey.

Let me re-phrase, what I'm trying to point out is that this site (and others) appear frightening to the public at large,  Titles like... "second revision, in pain", "scared of replacement, help", "1st op went well but stem released after 3 years".  I'm just trying to show others who may come on here brand spanking new and fearful to being with can see that a couple of bright shining lights are happy and recovering like rockstars.  That's all I was trying to point out.  It's human nature on forums to report the negative and not the positive.  Just being a bright light for others.  My doctor choice and my hospital are what made me a success today in Houston Texas.  Thank you

I, too, am doing very well.  I’m now 9 weeks post revision surgery as first surgery 13 months ago failed.  I had a complete new hip in May.   Apart from tiredness and backache (a result of being lopsided by over 2” for over a year) I’m doing really well.  I cycled last weekend too - and I’m 72 years old and raring to go!

I started using this site before I had my hip done and I was in fact grateful people mentioned the problems that could occur. To be forewarned is to be forearmed. I know a lot of people after their op get quite depressed because people keep saying how easy it was and how well they are, so the individual thinks there is something wrong with them in that they are having problems. I was lucky with a good surgeon and very little pain afterwards, but I did get frustrated with those who said they had left the hospital the evening of surgery only to go to the gym or took a taxi home to cook supper for the family. If you have something wrong it really can help to find that others have the same problem. If this discussion board was all sweetness and light it really would not have helped me at all.

LOL... I understood what you were saying.  Yes, there are some topics on the forum regarding complications, but most are just concerned patients going through the various stages of healing.  Those people are just reaching out and looking for advice, or just wanting to reach out to the community to those who have gone through similar surgeries.

In most cases people do very well.  It sounds as though you are right on track.  I did great after having a R-FHR 3 years ago in Charleston, SC.  I was walking without any assistance after 1 week.  After 3 months, I had most of my mobility back.  I did start PT right away though and I believe that is the key to getting back to normal faster.  Around 6-7 months had some discomfort in my upper thigh from the bone healing/adhering to the stem.  My surgeon told me not to worry, as this is normal.  By 10 months this had completely subsided.  Everyone heals differently, so you will see various comments.  I hope you continue to do well

So this is great  Love to hear the GOOD news because there is so much bad news from our press here in the US.  What a giant dumpster fire our press corps is.

I sure love the good vibes from you folks.  Man am I yawning again.  Gosh I wish I could put weight on my new hip.

I believe that there is Fake news everywhere!  I found this forum very helpful and comforting.  You probably will do too

Well said😍

It’s normal. Then again, I have felt tired since being a child. 😂

Hey it is only 10 days, cut yourself some slack about being tired.

They sawed of the top of your leg bone, jammed an artificial joint into the remaining bone and then reamed out your hip joint. Of COURSE you are tired, your body is in recovery. 10 days is nothing. You are gonna be sub par for about 5 weeks. Just relax, don't stress about it it takes time for things to knit themselves back together. Time, it takes time and no exercise doesn't help all that much. Exercise is not gonna get the hip socket to be melded permanently with the existing bone. It will take time for your bones to naturally grow around your prosthetic parts. Exercise only helps you build up muscle and strength in the parts of the butt, and leg that were NOT cut, those ligaments and tendons and muscles who are atrophied from lack of use do to you favoring your bad hip. It is jsut going to take time.

Listen to podcasts!

I like podcast Best Case Worst case on Wondery.

I have a small bluetooth speaker I put under my pillow, that way I can listen but it is not loud enough to wake up my husband. Try listneing to podcasts.

I also like, "This American Life" podcasts.

Go to the archives and then over on the left you can select a year, there are over 10 years of high quality podcasts on that site.

Also a really great podcast is "Shittown"

When you listen to podcasts it takes your mind off things and you focus on the story instead of your health and the hip. Listening to podcasts is much more relaxing than watching television as you can re-position yourself and still listen, unlike with tv where you have to have a line of site.

I am almost 3 weeks post op. At my 2 week physio appointment the physio said my one bit of advice is make sure you get a proper rest every day (nap or reading) for at least 8 weeks. Your body needs time to heal!

Day 17 and I'm on crutches with 50/50 weight bearing at the office.  All is good, I have been cleared to drive on Monday next week so I'm going to be doing outside customer visits with crutches.  LOL

Pain is minimal.  I've taken tylenol when I needed it but I have found that CBD oil (legal just about everywhere) works amazingly well for about 4 hours and then I redose.

Hiya bud😁

Just good to read your post, know just where ya coming from re the negative post's. All the best buddy for your future and I'm still waiting to get my life back 😁

All the best

Stay safe
