I notice in checking my pulse a lot more than usual. I think it started on Sunday when I was sitting in church and felt a bit lightheaded. I checked my pulse in my wrist, couldn't feel anything. Of course, I started panicking and starting feeling around my neck for my pulse (which I found, obviously). How do I stop myself before it becomes a habit? I don't want another part of anxiety taking over my life.
I know what you mean. I check my pulse all day several times a day I even downloaded a stupid app on my phone that counts your HR. I even wake up in middle of night and check it also check it at church and panic too if I don't feel it or it feels weak I start thinking the worst.
Hahah, sorry only found this funny because as I scrolled past your post I'm checking my pulse :p
You got it good! You know you're healthy with that nice calm happy pulse, mine is sporadic and all over the place
Missed beats, no matter how calm and relaxed I am it's always almost 100, just the action of putting my fingers to my wrist speeds my pulse up 10x
Don't think of it as a habit just think of it as research purpose, I check mine a lot at night because of these palpitations I've been having and the doctor telling me I have heart Arrhthmia, but I can go all day or weeks without checking it.
Your heart has been devoloped over years and years of evolution I think it knows what it's doing without you checking on it :p you're good don't worry about checking it, it will always be there in 30 or 40 years for you to check on it when you have to much time on your hands
That is an ocd complication. Check, check and checking. You stop yourself by getting proper treatment for the anxiety and learning how to deal with the ocd that is manifesting from the unmanaged anxiety. They also have workbooks to help you. Be very aware of what habits you are forming and do your best to logically think them through in there usefulness. You dont need to check your pulse. It is there it doesnt help in any way at all. It is not a guide to calm you, it is not a guide in how anxious you are, it is not a remidy or treatment or cure to anything, therapy and or meds will be your only treatment options to work with this. You will need to conciously work this through to stop this. You can write out all the illogical reasons why you do this and then put the logical explanations on the otherside. Then hang it in a place you can read it. Like a cbt rationale thing to remind you of its usefullness.
