Been 4 weeks now on Mirtazapine - want to reduce it

I have been on 15mg Mirtazapene for just over 4 weeks now but I am struggling with not being able to think clearly and night time hunger is becoming a problem. I am waiting to hear back from my dr as I have left a message asking if I can halve the dose. I am feeling bloated beyond belief too which is making me feel crap.

Has anyone successfully halved there dose?

Well we must accept ups and downs it's not about mirtazapine; I'm personal Trainer and can advice you with some dieting but don't stop the mirtazapine.

Try to make a routine, eat healthier; if you feel so anxious take valerian or passionflower. I had a bad time last year but now it's all about accepting what's going on whe chose to suffer this sickness. It's like diabetes, cancer. Etc.

Hello Mspanda, sorry you have trouble with bloating, I have it too, and had it even when I ate only small meals. I unfortunately had to go cold turkey yesterday, since my doctor suspects the meds made my liver count high. I hope you can reduce the meds and feel much better. Wishing you the best. Thanks for your message. I'm glad your dr is supporting you coming off it.

I feel like I put on a stone just in a few days. I just weighed myself and there is only a slight increase thankfully although I was convinced it was significant weight gain. My bloating has been on and off though.

I won't use valerian.

I also have a complicated mental health disorder so its harder.

I am taking things one day at a time.

Hi Mspanda.I'm going in the opposite direction of you in the sense that I started Mirt about 4 1/2 months ago at 15mg now up to 30mg for about 2 1/2 months.I also had Gabapetin started and upped during that time from 200mg to 600mg in 200mg increments.I was being weaned off Paxil however at the same time (20mg twice a day) after taking it for 20 years.I would say see what your doc says first  and if yes taper slowly.Each person has different side effects,so you'll have to see how you react.Godd luck and God Bless You,Bob

My dr said it would be ineffective to halve the dose. I am continuing with it for abit longer and noting the side effects and frequency for now. Thank you for the reply Robert68588
