Greetings all my hippie friends. It's been a while since I posted. I went back to work on June 8th with no problems or complications what so ever. I'm happy to report that going into week 16 I feel like nothing was even wrong with that wonky hip of mine. I hope everyone here that encouraged me during my early recovery weeks are doing well and that all you new hippies are coming along just fine.
Hi Susan,
Great to read this. I'm going to become a hippy on Tuesday and at 45 am struggling on crutches with pain. Can't believe it but am so excited to have this surgery as I was previously so active.
I hope you continue onwards and upwards!!🏃👍
Hi Susan,

I know that feeling well. I couldn't believe i was saying "I can't wait to have surgery" The best advice I can give you during your early recovery weeks is don't feel defeated by reading about others who seem to be up and around in a couple of weeks. I did that then finally just concentrated on MY own recovery. I stayed motivated and positive and slow but sure by week 8,was feeling pretty good. Wishing you all the best for a awesome outcome and speedy recovery Slow but sure is the key.
We did good didn't we Mic.
Nice to hear that it takes 4 months to come right, as I am waiting for my second one, I hope within the next few weeks, good news!! Thanks for the confidence boost.
Regards Ian.
Your welcome Ian. Like many here I had my challanges during my early recovery weeks, sore stiff thigh muscles, unable to sleep, got depressed reading about others progress and thinking why am I not recovery as fast, all the things we go through. My turnaround came about week 5. I felt stronger, increased my daily 30 minute walks to 4 a day and really started living my life again. So there really is light at the end of the tunnel, at least for me. Having no more hip pain after 4 miserable years is a blessing.
Lovely to hear positive news. Well done you. I am 9 days post op and luckily doing well. All the usual niggles, but posts like yours give us a boost
thanks
Hi Susan
Nice to know you are doing so well
It is encouraging for us new hippies who are only just beginning our journey to hear your comments
All the best Linda xx
That's really great news. I'm nearly 9 weeks and progressing steadily. It's lovely to be able to walk now. I could only do a couple of hundred yards before now regularly walking more than a mile a day.
I really have to say that finding this forum was a godsend for me. I had never had a hip replacement or knew anyone who did. When I stumbled across this forum on google and joined, well, it was like finding a whole family of people who I could relate to, rant to, cheer on and just get common sense answers to questions I had. If you have never had a hip replacement you take so much for granted but here when I could say Oh!!! I tied my shoe, or I took a shower or wow I could bend and pick something up and yes even Holy Mother Of God what did I do to myself, the people here responded with well done or gave you the sympathy you needed at that time. This place was my lifeboat and although I never met anyone here in person I consider you all my friends. It takes a lot of courage to jump on the surgical table and change your life and it does take a lot of work to make a comeback but it does happen. To those here still struggling I hear you and pray you find relief soon. So hat's off to all my fellow hippies in their various stages of recovery.
Hi Susan - good to read you are doing so well ...what a turn around, right? I, for one, never thought that I am looking forward to my next THR - of course I wish I didn't have to, but because of this forum and knowing that I am not alone (in having the 2nd one right ater the first) has brought me peace and acceptance - I thought I was an exception ... not !!
enjoy your Sunday and thank you for taking the time to give us an update ...
warm hug
Hi Susan
It's great to hear positive news of recovery. I am 7 weeks post op and have been frustrated too by seeing others running round without sticks ate two or three weeks. I had a non cemented replacement and I think that seems to take a bit longer. I too have had burning thigh pain and numbness at the back of my thigh which when mentioned to post op team at the hospital they said it was nornal! I have been so glad to read the news from all the hippies on this forum. It has really kept me going throught the down times. It's good to see light at the end of the tunnel and goodness knows any recovery pain is nothing compared to the hip pain. I only wigh I had realised it wasn't a totally pain free exercise. I foolishly imagined (and believed other people) that you had it done, woke up and off you went!!
Good luck to all of you with your recovery.
Hi Gillian
I have non cemented implant with Superpath proceedure and am on one stick round house, but do not feel comfortable outside unless I am on two.
I am 2 wks and 4 days post op. I think we are all different and have to progress at our own pace. Each little thing that you do better or differently each day is progress
Yes, I got the impression that the pain just 'went' after your op and the old pain does go, but at times it is replaced, particularly at night by a new annoying and nagging pain. That too will pass - it's a big op and we sometimes forget the trauma our body has gone through. Just be patient with your body's ability to heal itself and have lots of faith
Kind wishes Linda xx
Hi Gill,
Greeting -
Yup, the recovery is as hard as the operation, but this awesome group keeps us all on the right lines.
Yes, some will get up from the op and run a marathon the following weeks, but others wont do this till 10 years have elapsed.
In was told 6-8 months is the likely recovery time from THR!
good luck
Mic
