I've suffered with depression for a year and a half, I've tried tablets and they made me quite ill. I have now come off them. I feel I have no one to talk too and I'm not sure what to do. I have suicidal thoughts daily and I'm getting really fed up. I don't have a reason to be depressed but I just am. I feel like no one understands. I don't enjoy anything, especially working. I've been trying to set up my own photography business and its not going well, I also feel down about my weight and how I look. Any suggestions? Please help!
Thanks,
Charlotte
Have you ever had any counselling or CBT they can be quite effective, but you do have to really engage with the therapist. Try not to worry too much about your weight just try and eat healthy foods, I know it is difficult but I' m not saying go to a slimming club because if you are really low you will not engage a and can become ,ore dispondent. Try treating yourself to a new hair do, or have your nails done it might just help. Sorry I cannot help around the work situation I have no idea about setting up a buismess.
you say you have no reason to be depressed, I can relate to that I am in the same boat, I have had a good marriage for 31 years, two wonderful son's who both have good careers, no financial worries, took voluntary redundancy from the NHS with a good payout and pension, some really good friends, so I ask myself why do I feel crap, needing antidepressants and waiting for counselling again. I do not know.
hope this is of some use to you.
Thank you for replying to me. I really appreciate. I am going to try cbt again and I have started regular exercise and eat as healthily as possible. I am always changing my hair and getting my nails done! Im obsessed with shopping but that only takes my mind off it for a little while. Thank you for your advice
You are feeding your own depression. Or your thoughts are- and you connect to them.
As long as you are concentrating on the negative parts of everything- your body, life, job- you will feed your negative mind and it will all go in a circle you become aware of what you're doing.
You say you are feeling insecure about your body- will feeling insecure change your body? Why do you stress about it then? Rather do something about it- go exercise, exercise will release endorphine and you will naturally feel happier.
When your mind gives you such negative thoughts, don't listen to them, think of a positive one and fight it. Don't give in to it. You're much stronger than that. Thoughts are like clouds, some are bigger and heaver but they all pass. And you are not in control of them, so as soon as you realise not to depend on thoughts, you will stop spending so much energy on thinking and going in circles with your thoughts.
Stop feeding your depression, and it will go away. Accept the current state you're in but work around it. Don't feed it.
I am so sorry that anti depressants did not help. There are a lot of them on the market, so perhaps the one you took just did not suit you. Would you be willing to try another.
I take lots of supplements which I think help me. You are depressed and need something to help.
Thank you for your advice, I will try and think more possitively and stop letting it get the better of me
I dont like taking anti depressants, i'd rather do it more naturally. What supplements do you take?
I am not sure I should say what supplements I take as it may be the moderators would think I was advertising, which I am not.
I bought a book which told me what supplements would help, and also people on depression sites have shared what works for them.
I know what you mean about not having a reason to be depressed, you just are. It is a common misconception that people are depressed because of something that has happened in their life. I have had depression for over 20 years, and for most of that time took anti depressants. 17 months since I stopped and just taking supplements. Have good and bad days.
Anti depressants do go a long way to help alleviate the symptoms of depression, but I know a lot of people don't like taking them because of their side effects. I think if you found one that suited you and did not cause side effects you would get relief from your depression.
Hope you manage to find something natural that helps you. I have tried a couple of things suggested that did not work, and in fact one made me feel poorly, but on the whole I am doing well on just supplements.
You can look up on internet about this. I took some supplements when I was on anti depressants anyway. since stopping the medication I have added others. I still get ups and downs though.
Im Self employed since last Septemeber and it is hard. As for the Depression and Suicidal Feeling their are some lovely people on this forum that can really be there for you and understand how you are feeling but I think your GP really has to be the person that evaluates your needs properly and prescribe the right things for you.
Dont get me wrong thou the advice and experience from other on here is invaluable beit your new to depression or a long term sufferer.
There are a number of different Anti Depressant so it might be worth looking at a different solution. Obviously only you and your doctor can decide on that. But as well as SSRI ( Citalopram, Prozac & Sertraline just a few examples ) there are Tricyclic, MAOI, Mirtazapine (notsure what group it sits in) and SNRI. these can be used in conjunction with other med to handle your mood as well.
