Been on propranolol 40mg instant release three times a day. I can tell when I haven't had one but even after taking them I still have bad symptoms of my agoraphobia. The medicine doesn't cute anxiety I know but it has helped amazingly with the symptoms but now it's like it's stopped working or my body has become used to them. Don't want to change medication and wouldn't know what to even ask for. Was thinking of calling let's talk a councillor thing but don't know how much help it really is. Guess I'd just like some advice from someone who understands.
Why dont you just explain everything to the doctor and they should know why it isnt working and what you would need instead. Talking to a professional might help you feel abit better as well
I don't believe doctors are always right my doctor at first gave me the strongest anti depressant on the market which massively affected my anxiety still to this day and was only offered propranolol after suggesting it to him. He had to research it too. So I'm not confident in speaking to my doctor and like I say I don't want to change medication. I was just wandering if anyone has experienced the same with those tablets and if anyone could let me know their opinion on councillors whether it helped or not.
ah right i understand and yeah i know i had to go to a couple of different doctors before anyone tried to help me. im sorry i havent experienced anything like that to help you
Hi ndudley19, I'm on Propanolol 160mg slow release (1 pill a day), Sertaline 50mg and have Diazapam 2mg if all else fails (GP doesnt want me using this). This is to try and control/stop anxiety - sweating. in social situations.
In my limited experience i would recomend you try for the councilling option, It will take you outside your comfort zone but may give you some insights on the agrophobia. In the UK my GP put me in touch with a counciller and I followed a 7 week stress reduction course. There was only one initial 1 to 1 meeting and a weekly meeting which lasted about an hour. Setting was in a hall with the counseller presenting to the group followed by relaxation. There was no group ice breaking so nothing to worry about if you want to remain anonymous!
I did find it helpful at the time but I personally haven't been able to replace medication with positive thinking. They do claim to have good outcomes with a wide variety of disorders.
