so........ I have been on sertraline now for 3 years, started on 50 for 12 weeks, then upped to 75, then 100. Felt amazing so weaned myself back to 75 then 50, which I am on now and have been for the past 1.5 -2 years, but I have recently been ill since christmas with flu, now chest infection. My appetite is more or less gone, and anxiety is high. I’m wondering should I up my dose to 75 and will I get any side effects from upping as I have been on them so long. Any advice from anyone that has been on these a while and upped would be gratefully appreciated xx
HI Vikki I’m so sorry to hear ure not well. But I was wondering if you can answer me a question please? How long was u on 100mgs b4 u felt better? As I’ve been on 100mgs now for the past 7wks with little progress. Do you think this is still quite early or do you think I need to up my dose? Thanks Vikki 🌹
Hi, I waited 10-12 weeks each time I upped so I could give it a chance to work. If you are having more good days than bad then wait until it levels out in your system. Sertraline does take it’s time but when it does kick in you will be your old self again x
Thank you so much Vikki it’s just so scary not feeling like myself and feeling detached and my angonising thoughts all the time, did you ever have any these symptoms. Thanx 🌹
Having a flu for a month is a long time. What has the doc said? Anxiety could be cuz of the illness. I suggest see a good doc for the congestion and hold on to the 50mg for a while as it has worked well for you for so long.
Take care
It started with flu then I coughed so much I strained my intercostal muscle and now have a chest infection. Taking anti biopics which has now caused Diarrhea, I have a follow up appointment on wed. My anxiety has been bad since then as when I’m ill I get really ill and have been literally bed ridden, and I have hardly eaten in all this time. Can I ask how long have you been on sertraline and what mg. I’m so fed up of being ill and that’s what has got me feeling like this I think
I was ill over Christmas and my heart was racing, put it down to body fighting off the chest infection. Not the sertraline
Once it had cleared my heart rate was back to normal.
i would wait until your chest infection has clear, because u may not need to up your dose. And I had no appetite for a week to ten day because everything smelt and tasted foul.
good luck with whatever you decide to do, hope you feel better soon
I've been till 250mg for around 8 months and pretty much bedridden as besided cognitive issues i have physical too - entire body stiffnes, extreme fatigue , sleepiness etc.
With no help yet. Stopped abruptly for 3 weeks but now back all over again at 75 mg. So it starts all over again.
Thankyou so much for replying Julie, yes my heart rate has been up. I will take your advice and leave off upping for the time being. I have doctors on wed for follow up on chest infection and anti biotics so will speak to him about it. My pulse is over 100 but doc said that’s due to my anxiety and wasn’t to worried,
Also Julie can I ask how long you have been on sertraline and what mg
Hi Vicki
I've been on setraline almost 3 yrs and also was on diazapam 2mg if and when required. But I used to be on 200mg. Tried cutting down was horrendous. I'm back upto 150 mg. And haven't had any diazapam for 10 wks. But although the setraline keeps me sane. My anxiety is horrendous just now. It is constantly there. Horrible gut feeling has not left me for weeks. Feels as though I'm taking this medication but it's not shifting anxiety at all just now.
Sorry for the delay on replying.
Been for a long walk
iiv been on it for a year now and I’m still on 25mg. I take it for health anxiety. I could have gone to 50mg but if it’s working for me at 25mg will carry on, I’m sensitive to all medication, i was on beta blockers low dose but I was passing out due to it lowering my heart rate to much.
last year I was so low and worried about dying because my mum died at 60 suddenly and I’m only 2 and half years off that. My husband died of cancer at 54 10 years ago. And it petrified me going the same way. I asked my GP for help, hence that’s why I’m on sertraline. They have helped me live my life again. I do still worry about things but I can cope.
