Hi has anyone seen black spider Webb effect after cateract surgery? I seen them
as the doctor did my left eye 8-23-17. Doctor says it’s normal etc. been using ketorolac drops . Had my right done 8-2-17. Now as of about last 2 weeks I see them over and at right side of my right eye
Am curious about the details of the black spider web, which you are seeing. Will appreciate it if you can describe it a little more (others may use a different term for the same effect).
I had this effect too in one of my eyes, but not the other, after cataract surgery. The doctor said it was not that unusual and would clear up as the eye healed, which it did after a few weeks. The spider web lines also kind of looked like a number of thin cracks in a pain of glass, as if the cataract lens itself was cracked -- which of course it was not, but scary nonetheless.
I don't think this is something to worry about.

I had RLE in January this year. I had trifocals in both eyes. I see spiders webs around bright lights. Mine are silver coloured and as the previous person described, they are like a shattered mirror or pane of glass. I also see full circle rainbows inside them. I see ghosting around anything bright, even the moon. I won't be having any fairy lights this Christmas - having lens exchanges has ruined my life.
I was +1.5 in one eye and + 1 in the other (for reading), so not bad, however my near distance had been deteriorating , making it difficult to see street signs ext when driving. I had two prescriptions and wanted to be free from spectacles.
I hear that the monofocals are the best choice if you cannot tolerate all the side effects, which are permanent, as the side effects with those are not as severe.
I am still considering explantation of mine to monofocals, but I have not seen any evidence on any forums of anyone who has had this done recently.
Think long and hard what you do.
There are a few on these forums that have had a lens exchange from multifocal or Symfony to a monofocal lens (successful).

Hi don’t understand using this forum that good yet! Sorry I haven’t answered back! Well had surgery in August on both eyes. Used Restor lens. Still seeing black Webb like effect over my eyes. Doctor says is normal and will go away. I’m seeing a lot of glare since I seen him will see him in 2weeks. I’ve been very disappointed but trying to be patient and praying hard!!
Do you have Restor +2.5D or Restor +3.0D? I heard +3.0D is more prone to have glares/halos issues.

Sounds like floaters to me....
That sounds like floaters...they can get better over time.

Floaters After Cataract Surgery
Floaters after cataract surgery are a fairly common problem. Many times patients will complain of dozens of black floaters that seem to appear as specks of dust, some larger and some smaller. They may have a tendency to move or drift with your vision as you look to the right and left. Others describe eye floaters after cataract surgery as looking like black spiderwebs.
In many cases patients actually have eye floaters before cataract surgery, but are not aware of them because the cataract is cloudy and blocks the recognition of a floater. Once the cataract is removed the floaters may become much more noticeable.
The good news about floaters after cataract surgery is that they are usually normal and have a tendency to disappear with time.
Following a cataract procedure, floaters may be a cause for concern because in some instances they may represent a sign of a tear in the retina or a hole in the retina. This could possibly lead to a retinal detachment if not properly diagnosed or treated appropriately.
Therefore, most patients who develop floaters after eye surgery, and especially after cataract surgery, should have their eyes examined by their cataract surgeon or another qualified eye doctor. This eye exam will require a careful evaluation of the retina to rule out a retinal problem such as a retinal tear or hole in the retina. Your eye doctor will dilate your pupils in order to examine the retina carefully.
Generally, if the retina is normal without any holes or tears, the floaters will fade with time. It can take weeks or months for the eye floaters to fade after cataract surgery. And in some cases the floaters do not go away completely.
Important warning signs of a retinal detachment are a sudden onset of flashing lights, a large increase in the number or size of floaters, or a curtain or shade coming down and blocking your vision. If any of these symptoms develop then you need to see your eye doctor immediately for a comprehensive eye examination.
You're welcome Janice - and some people get floaters who haven't even had cataract surgery, I just wanted to mention that. I hope it gets better!
You can also do a google search for just "eye floaters" and even more links will come up since like I mentioned floaters are not just associated with cataract surgery.
Also you will probably see links about having vitrectomy surgery for floaters. This is supposed to be very risky, so in my opinion I don't think I would do it unless I tried everything else first (do a search for an article called Vitreous Floaters by Dr. Patrick Monahan, M.D. of the Retinal Diagnostic Center). There is also YAG laser treatment for floaters. Ask your eye doctor if you could have what's called PCO (posterior capsule opacification). YAG laser is used to treat that so maybe it would help your floaters also. Other things you could try are stress reduction techniques and drinking more water.
My vision is beautiful when I'm indoors or for distance during the daytime at night I can't drive every light has the spider web effect over it it's so annoying and glare my doctor said to give it time but he believes it's the bifocal lens but if he takes it out he will put only a regular lens in so that means I'm back to reading glasses which I'm upset over because with this lens my vision is beautiful
margaret23928 wondering if you surgeon went over the compromise or trade-offs with you with premium lenses. I too chose them - Symfony in both eyes and have excellent vision / no glasses required but see 20 or do concentric circles around certain light sources at night. I had lots of glare and starbursts too in the early weeks but those subsided. However the concentric circles are due to lens design and won’t diminish over time. I have adapted and can drive at night but that isn’t the same as them going away.
If you have great vision all other times and no need for glasses my recommendation would be to leave well enough alone versus a lens exchange.
Just my suggestion.
