So yesterday I was told I have herpes type 1. I noticed my symptoms, and went to the doctor and she swbbed it. I had blisters on my vagina and my doctor then swabbed the sores. My question is how did i get type 1 on my vagina? I get it, the whole oral thing, and that I got it through oral sex but my bf ( the one who I got herpes from) never had a cold sore or anything. I know its un common to get type 1 on your private area so my question is how and what exactly is it? what should I expect? What exactly is the difference between type 1 and type 2?
Type 2 is on private area type 1 on the mouth cold sores
Type 2 is genitally wise .
It's not that bad trust me .
Least not the type that you have , you don't shed as much .
Hi Claire this is an excellent link about the differences between the two.

It is my understanding that if you have type 1 it could be harder to get type 2 but it is still a real possibility.
Type 2 genitally can be a bummer, at least it is for me. As a matter of fact, because I had no previous exposures, my initial outbreak was Type 2 both orally and genitally - so it is possible to get Type 2 in both places, though rare.
Good luck to you.

I was told I have type 1 on my vagina
I was told when they called to tell me what type i had which is type 1 that the type 1 doesnt like to be down there. So that was a good thing becuase that meant that as people with type one in the genital area which is not its site of preference we will have much less outbreaks than someone with type 2.
I also ready online that of the people with type 1 in the genital area only a fourth shed the virus, and its not much shedding at all.
So having type 1 is much easier to deal with in the genital area i guess.
