I have a weird problem. For years I have had ectopic heartbeats. They have caused me stress in a variety of ways for over a decade. My doctor has reassured me that they are benign. I had a full cardiologist work up getting a blood test, a cardiac MRI, and an EKG in office. The test found nothing to be alarmed about and the cardiologist didn't follow up. I was fine for weeks and then they flared up again, so my doctor sent me to get a 3 day holter monitor. Turned it back in, and it came back negative for anything malignant. I was fine for over a year until an issue with a beta blocker (of all things) caused the number of skips I was having to increase immensely for several days and it sent my stress through the roof. My doctor sent me to the cardiologist again for reassurance and to talk about the beta blocker issue. That cardiologist hooked me up to a 30 day monitor and put me on diltiazem to ease my beats. I went with a lower dose of diltiazem due to anxiety over yet ANOTHER medication, and after 30 days the report was in "you have benign ectopic heartbeats, you are fine." The last week I've had blood pressure medicine issues and I don't know if it's the stress the side effects have caused or the side effects themselves or what, but in the last few days my ectopic heartbeats have increased. Here's my problem: when I have a traditional ectopic heartbeat where I feel my heart stop for a second then I get a "thump" I am ok. That doesn't bother me unless it just won't stop thumping. Once in a while I will get the skip, but I won't feel the "thump." Those end up feeling like soft skips or sometimes small flutters. THOSE bother me! So I was wondering if anyone who had this problem could give me some insight. The doctors say there is no difference, but why do I get more of a rush from the flutter/soft feeling than the hard thump, and why do they bother me so much more? Does anyone else have these? Does anyone else get just as much anxiety from these? Any words of wisdom at all? Thanks in advance.
