So only 2 weeks ago I was thinking to myself tha kg of my anus isn't effected. But unfortunately I think it is as the last few days it's been intensely itchy. It all started after a bowel movement. I wiped way too hard and caused myself to bleed. Only a dot of blood but ever since the entire area around the anus opening is itchy.
I don't really want to use the steroid there until I speak to my doctor. I don't like to self-treat. I'm going to contact her but in the meantime what can I use to relieve the itch?? It's horrendous. I notice it more if I touch the area/rub it. That seems to aggravate it.
Apologies for the spelling area that was meant to say thankgod my anus isn't effected.
Hi Dani , l always use baby wet wipes to clean that area everytime l empty my bowels ( that sounds pompous l couldn,t think how to put it nicely ha ! ) l have the whole family doing it now , no more itchy bums ! Hope this helps x
Hi Dan,
I do the same as Winfred. I use baby wipes too. That is a good start for the itchiness, but if the itch is from Lichen, then a steriod cream might be needed. especially if this is just starting to catch it right away. Hemp oil salve may also help. I am from the US so not sure if you are familiar with A&D ointment but that also may help. I have regularly soak in a bath with epsom salts and that has been a big help too. I have recently started a restricted diet, Paleo Autoimmune Protocol and finding that is helping too. It removes trigger foods and provides an immune supportive diet. I have had Lichen sclerosus or planus affecting genitals, anus, scalp and ears. I caught the scalp and ears right away and so have kept that from advancing. But I feel the AIP diet is really helping. i have a lot more energy. If you are not ready for a big diet switch, I started with making bone broth (stock) and drank that a few times a day or made soup with it. That is a good place to start.
Hi Dani, it sounds to me that you may have hemaroids, I had a lot of soreness / itching round back passage but recently have been told I have got hemaroids. For ages I thought it was because I was wiping to hard and that it was part of the LS, it's easy to blame everything on it. I use Emu oil quite often and Anusol when they really give trouble?
best of luck.
If you do have haemorrhoids/ piles use a pessary/ suppository for this problem - you can get them at the pharmacist - with or without a steroid component- The melting of the suppository will coat your mucous membrane inside the anus and a little around the entrance with a thick whitish preparation that keeps anal fluids and faecal matter from the skin.(the steroid element will help to reduce any swelling) Any faecal material will REALLY itch and burn - because it will still contain the digestive juices/ acids - hence the need to be so careful after a bowel action to keep everything off - as you were. As you know any faecal matter left on the skin does cause dreadful itching, especially in hot weather
gentle sluicing with tepid water can help - ice packs can also reduce the inflamation- crushed ice in plastic bags inside a flannel - Check the area with a mirror- if you see swollen veins you may welll have piles - get them checked out at the GP and learn how to manage them. If not you may have LS there- again looking will help establish that better for you and allow you to decide the best treatment
Good luck Sue
I was having the same problem with my anus, After trying several different creams etc, what cured it for me was, after every movement wipe with 'Simple baby wipes' I find them the best, no perfume etc and if I do get the start of an itch, Anusol cream around the area and a little bit pushed just inside. Hope this helps. X
Thanks everyone for the advice
