At a+e yesterday and GP today where im told sertraline was wrong med for me and i need to come off it. No replacement medication proposed but have been referred to psychiatrist for assessment with possible bipolar suspected and mood stabiliser having been talked about. Just wondering about best way to come off is - one tablet on alternate days going to one every 2 days etc? Or half every day for first week going to half on alternate days for second week and so on. Am anxious abt coming off.
Hi Richard my doctor advised me not to just stop taking sertraline but to wean of slowly to avoid the side effects. Didn't the gp or hospital advise you?
Hello Richard think Betsy is right you should be weaned off them. If you don't have enough tablets see your doctor. I don't know why they want you to come off them or how long you've been on them so maybe there is a good reason for you to come off them. But I would certainly get some advice about weaning off them. Good luck.
Hi betsey and kevin, my doctor didnt give me any clear advice on how to come off them - said i c ould either take on alternate days for first; second week taking them every 3 days etc. Or i could have half every day for first week; half every second day for second week . . . do it that way. Ive opted for taking them on alternate days for week one - so will just see how i go. Am anxious but am aware of support available to me if things become bad.
Havent been taking them for long - just two months probably. Difficulty for me is side effects havent settled and theyre making my highs far worse. Theyre helping with the lows yes but some days i am pretty manic. Looking now at poss bipolar diagnosis and maybe somdthing like lithium.
