BHP . FOODS TO HELP/ AVOID

I have been treated for BHP now for a number of years, I'm coming up

62. I am on Doxocasin, think that's the spelling.

Lately my flow has been getting worse and wondered if I could

adept my diet, add supplements avoid certain foods.

A lot of info. Seems contradictory, eat tomatoes, don't eat tomatoes.

Is there any hard evidence on what I should eat/avoid to help my

symptons, considering I am on prescribed drugs. Any info. Opinions

would be great . Thanks chaps!

My Prostate is not very enlarged, but I have Gleason 6 cancer and had urine retention during UTI and after general anaesthetics. I have been prescribed Tamsuolsin on more than one occasion. However, on my uro's advice, I have been able to stop taking it by gradually eliminating tea and coffee (including decaf) from my daily intake (with occasional coffee when out).

And waving goodbye to Tamsulosin is a great step.. well done you!

Thanks for the info. Think I will start by stop  drinking tea and coffee.

 Much obliged.

Good morning.  Yes you need to stop drinking tea and coffee.  Also you cant' eat chocolate or processed foods.  My urologist gave me a 8 page list to fellow.  See your doctor maybe you can give you one.  Also get off doxocasin.  Try 20mg of cialis it is much better for you  good luck  Ken

confused

Thanks Kenneth. I am prescribed Doxocasin as I had high blood pressure

and this was the reason, help in my BPH also.

Is Cialis a prescribed drug for BPH?

Thanks for you help, any other tips / recommendations would be fantastic.

They do prescribe Cialis for BPH  20mg and under.  It is suppose to relax the bladder a help with blood flo to the prostate.  Try it less side effects  Ken

It was also prescribed for my ED and works wonders!

In general, they tell you to avoid coffee, tea, alcohol, but everyone reacts differently. A shame, for example, to give up coffee if it has no effect on your bph. Easy enough to experiment.

Standard dose for CIalis for BPH is 5mg taken daily. Some studies had OK results with 2.5 mg daily.

You have to see what works for you.  Ken

Echoing what JimJames said - its a trial and error thing. I was told to avoid caffiene like the plague, but found that it didn't bother me at all, other than acting as a diuretic. Alcohol was much worse - chocolate and spicy foods, not problem. Its very individual.

But...long term BPH can result in permanent bladder problems and there are now (in the past year or two) some procedures that are much less invasive and have a much lower side effect profile than the previous ones - and when they work, you can eat and drink anything you want.

Once you're on the meds, its usually a when, not an if for doing some kind of procedure. You might want to get a diagnosis - a scope and urodynamics test to see what is causing your problem and what might be the best way to improve it. "Managing" BPH generally doesn't work long term and ogten causes permanent bladder problems. And if your urologist mentions the word TURP, grab your coat and RUN!!

Everyone is different. I can drink decaf coffee tea eat chocolate even mildly spicy food.

BTW the dose for daily cialis is 5 mg not 20

I take daily 5 mg cialis . Works good for me. It may not be c ice red by insurance and it pretty expensive

I know.  I can't drink tea or eat chocolatee.  Most of the time they start you at 5 mg  Have a good  Ken

You can get it cheap from canada or ask the doctor for samples Ken

5mg works for me too and intend to stick with it 👍

I generally try to limit my salt/sodium intake, so was happy to find a place that had "everything" bagels with very little salt. Or so I thought after tasting it.

For the past month or so, I've been on a VERY low sodium diet, and returned to the same place but this time the everything bagel tasted very salty. I'm guessing the ingredients were the same but the difference was that being on a very low sodium diet I noticed it. Or more germane, when you get used to eating typical high sodium meals, especially when eating out, your taste buds get immune to all the salt.

Just a reminder, that there's probably more sodium in foods than you probably realize.

Jim

Kenneth can this be prescribed as well as Doxosasin?

They gave me Finesteride once and it crippled me.

Cheers

How did Finasteride cripple you ? Hank
