BHRT? I know this has been discussed but I'm confused

I know this has been discussed but has anyone tried bhrt and if so do you feel better? That is the better one to try correct? Im usually an obsessive googler but I dont even want to do that so i figured id ask you ladies who are suffering just the same. Is that something that can be used long term like the rest of your life? Im 48. I dont even know where my hormones are at. I went for a gyno visit last august my first visit in 6 years due to high anxiety. She was young, when i explained all my symptoms she looked at me like i had 3 heads and asked if i talk to anyone. She said there were really no accurate tests for hormones and what im experiencing could be hormonal or stress. I wanted to lunge over the room and throat punch her, God forgive me. Are there less side effects wth the biotentical? whats it from, im so confused.

Hi Susan

BHRT (bio identical), known as body identical RBHRT (regulated body identical ) are less synthetic plant derived hormones that more closely mimic those that your body naturally produces. Regulated means it can be prescribed by NHS but not combined, so you would get a separate tablet/cream/gel/pessary for oestrogen and a separate application for progesterone. The progesterone cost to NHS is about £20 per tube, and in my experience is not readily offered up!

The progesterone in particular is micronised and potentially has benefits over synthetic progesterones like , you are less likely to experience weight gain, irritability , anxiety, fluid retention.

You can stay on any HRT for as long as you want, your Dr will encourage you to come off them, usually after 10 yr but it is your choice.

The British Menopause Society is a great website. For a £10 donation you can be in direct contact with a menopause expert over email, or £20 for verbal contact. Well worth it. Also check out 'The menopause Dr website. She also has a video on Youtube. Really interesting.

Hiya susan

I would’ve given practically the same info as salonios, and have used Dr menopause and the menopause society and both have been a great help. I was on bhrt for about 9 months, and they were really good. I was on Sandrena, utrogestan and trostan. I had much better energy, no pain, slept great, anxiety was manageable etc but after the 9 months I started to get the old symptoms. I’m on hrt now (kliofem) and I’m just about 3 months in. Things are good again, but I don’t find my sex drive is as good. It seems that women often have to change types and brands to get the best result, but I’ve had no adverse side effects with either xx

Thank you ladies so much for all the information. This is all so scary. Thats awful that after 9 months it wasnt helping you anymore. That scares me like what if all this stuff just makes things worse in the long run.
It sucks having absolutely no control over this. All my time is spent on this and feeling beyond miserable. It makes me so angry like why am i here. Im sorry i know there are ppl worse off and im not alone. Just needed to vent. Hugs to all
