Happy Birthday!! I know surgery is stressful but you will see that this will be your best birthday present ever...These surgeries are performed daily all around the world, and you hardly ever here of a complication....You should be fine, just follow the directions given no food, or drink, and blood thinners before surgery...
Think good thoughts, and tomorrow will be over before you know it, and you'll be able to walk pain free again...Best wishes!!!
Best wishes for a very happy birthday Angie.
I hope your doctor prescribed some Ativan for you ... to celebrate and smooth out your day.
Seriously ... you need to celebrate the opportunity of this operation. It is going to make your life so much better.
I go back to get back to get my second hip done next Tuesday. I want to you to post a message after this surgery (well give yourself a little time as you will be a bit loopy for a while).
Enjoy your birthday and relax, do lots of favourite activities to distract you and .. work at it if you have to to reassure your family too.
I wish you a fabulous day and sweet dreams.

Hi Angie,
Do you have a heart condition? I did with my first and between the cardiologist and the anaesthetist they had me covered!
Other than that there really isn't a worry. The procedure is so exact that they have all eventualities perfected.
Have a lovely birthday and don't worry about tomorrow, it's just another day and you'll be asleep for a lot of it.
Happy birthday! Xx
Happy Bday !!!!
I know its easy for us to say that EVERYTHING will be fine, BUT, as others have said, there are thousands of these surgeries every day all over the world. Its extremely RARE that anything goes wrong
Good Luck
You will b fine, are you having a General or SPinal, I had spinal and can recommend that. Remember these procedures are done in the 100's and read through no one has had a problem with the operation.

Happy birthday! Try not to worry, hip operations are very routine now. I had my THR nearly 8 weeks ago, and I hardly think about my hip now, no pain. I was worried before, because I'd never had surgery, but it was absolutely fine. I had an epidural and was sedated. They just wake you up when it's finished. Brilliant! The pain relief is really good, kept waiting for it all to start hurting, and it never did. Good luck!
Happy Birthday Angie. I had the same anxiety and put surgery off for 6 months. Boy was that a mistake, this will be the best present you will ever get. Just follow Doctors instructions and you will be fine. Don't put it off any longer. Good Luck!
Happy birthday to you Angie!! I will be in your position before long and thats why I love this forum. They make me feel so good and I hope it makes you feel that way. I know your surgery will go just fine. All the best to you. I will be looking for your posts when you can after your surgery.
They say THR is the most succesful operation in the world.
Hi Angie,
I had my surgery 3 weeks ago today.
I was also very nervous about the op.
The Vibe in the hospital felt very much like a hair dresser or dentist. This is because the operation is so common and complications are so rare. My surgeon was doing 8 Ops that day. The medical team were sensitive to the level of anxiety of the patients and really helped keep me calm and positive.
With regards to risks, I took my daughter indoor Sky diving a couple of months ago. There were kids as young as 6 doing it. My Daughter is 12. At check in I was presented a legal waiver to sign advising that I am aware my daughter could be severely injured or die. I googled this and the only injuries from indoor skyding have been very advanced people attempting complex tricks. So extreme cases. They still have to have the waiver for everyone. I view the risks of THR in this light.
Another thing that helped was a study by the Mater hospital of 6000 hip or knee operations. You can google this. There were only three serious complications among this 6000. All three were knee operations. All three were patients who either had congenital heart or blood conditions, were heavy smokers and over 75 (no offence meant to any octogenarians). Extreme cases.
The whole thing was over in the blink of an eye. Now everyday is like Christmas. No arthritic pain. At three weeks I am close to exceeding my pre-op mobility and it is only going to get better from here.
All the best.
