Bikini waxing after a vulvar biopsy - unsure

Hello all, I am 21 years old and for as long as I can remember (since I was a child), I've had a bumpy white scar on my left labia majora. It has always itched and felt very dry and scaly. After years of being embarrassed, I finally went to my GP to see what it was. After being referred to a dermatologist, I have been diagnosed with lichen sclerosus. Luckily, the dry scaly skin is only on one side of my labia majora. I have been using dermovate once a day for the past 4 months now and it has helped little.

I will be having a vulvar biopsy in a months time and wanted to know how long I would have to wait till after the procedure to have a brazilian wax. What is the healing time like?

Also, the dermovate hasnt really helped and my skin is still bumpy. If the scarred bumpy skin persists and does not improve, will it be surgically removed?

Thank you very much for reading this smile

Advice and experiences would be much appreciated. I can't talk to anyone I know about this as I dont know anyone who has the same condition.

I avoid pain and would advise do not mess with this area with waxing. LS is a chronic condition, will need continued treatment. You need to be concerned with repairing any inflammation and sore itchy skin so you can feel good. I would really recommend you not irritate this delicate skin area. Waxing can be done on bikini area but stay away from vulva is my thought.

Hi Laila,

If you haven't already, take a look at the thread "An Experiment with Borax".  You will find more healing with that, than the steroid you are taking. People have found great sucess with unfusing, so it may help with the scarring you've seen. Also, try soaking in a tub with 1/3 cup of baking soda.

I agree with Mary--stay away from any process or product that could even possibly iritate your vulva (even soap). Moisturizing with oils (emu, coconut, almond, etc.) should help you as well.  Lastly, unless the dry scaly skin you describe is something other than LS, don't think about surgically removing any part of your vulva.
