I had a bilateral hip replacement 7 weeks ago. Would like to share our experiences
Congrats Maureen. Just sending you some support. I had my 2nd hip done two weeks ago and it has been far better.
Take care. I will be interested to hear you you are doing.
Hugs,

hi maureen,
warm welcome to this wonderful hippies forum ...
There are many members who had bilateral hip replacement and I am sure there will be some responses ...
do you mind sharing a bit more about you?
How are you doing ?
Like Linda, I had 2 THR surgeries in 6 months -

Maureen I had a bi-lateral hip replacement 11th August.. and yes lets hit the site with encouragement.
I went for my review yesterday and have no restrictions on what I do... tried to sleep on my side but found it not as comfortable so went back on my back..
I have bursitis on the right hip which is sore but not as painful as it was before I had the op.
I am walking around home without any aids... just when I go out due to having extremely bad knees that also need replacing.
One thing you must keep up with the pain meds as us Bi laterals have 2 lots of pain to fight ... our bodies were taken through some rough handling
Keep up the recovery... as they say one step forward and two backwards is the only way to get there.
Hello everyone! I had the op on 8th August, just a few days before you Elaine! I'm doing well, NO PAIN! I cannot believe the difference! I'm a bit stiff this morning because the physio therapy yesterday had me working out things I haven't moved for years! I first went to the doctors 7 years ago with a limp, but in the end I could barely walk. Now it's a question of retraining all those habits to avoid pain! It's now, legs together - head up, loosen up and try to gain confidence!
Hi Maureen.... I also suffer from stiffness in the mornings.. but last two days have done so much walking...
I have bursitis in my Right hip but that will go .... I have been 10 yrs complaining to GP who refused to admit there was anything wrong with my hips... no xrays were taken.
Yes walk tall, bend the knees and try taking longer strides rather than pigeon steps.
Hi Elaine, I laughed when I read your post! I'm defo on the pigeon steps! 20 mins walking is about the right amount of walking for me. I went on the exercise bike for 20 mins but pulled a muscle! What is bursitis?
Excited to hear your experience, Maureen. I'm scheduled for my bilateral hip replacement on December 19th. Did you have the anterior or posterior approach? Where are you located? Congratulations on your progress. Looking forward to join the hippies.
Rita
Hehe, I had to look that up...it was posterior. I'm from Cardiff. Thank you. I was very pessimistic before the op, but I cannot believe the difference post op!
I have met a few relatives of bilateral hippies and theiron stories have been encouraging. The hippies on this forum have given me lots of hope. I have quiet a lot of pain at present in my day to day life and in my nursing career. The bilateral hip injections that I get every 90 days help but not for long. I am looking forward ton once again being able to function as a real person who is 56 years old. Not a set of hips that are about 150 years old lol.
It is life changing! I start hydrotherapy 11th October. It's so lovely to look forward with optimism!
Bursitis is inflammation around the new joint, tender to touch but also uncomfortable on some movements.
My husband says at times I walk like an Orangutan when walking without my crutches, as use my arms to balance.
If we haven's suffered enough from comments like that. lol
Oh Maureen how i envy you I would love to have some hydrotherapy might have to ask my physio about that.
Today I said I would love to lay in a Jaccuzi and let it blow on my hips with full force just to try a ease them.
Having had two busy days and lots of walking and travelling I fully expected not to feel good today but surprisingly I have turned another corner and walking alot better without any aid, but only indoors..
No doubt I will suffer from all I have done at some point but the fact I have survived so far is pleasing me.
May the corners keep turning! Went out to a restaurant tonight without crutches, bit of a mistake... felt sooooo vulnerable. Very busy, people, waiters rushing everywhere. Live and learn! Very glad you are so so well. May the hips be with us! 🙂
Walking like a duck, so orangutan sounds good!
I have been out today with my daughters who last saw me 2 weeks ago and they saw an improvement so that was encouraging.
If I am going out in public then my best friends come with me, not that I need them both but ensures others realise I have a problem... not ready for the challenge of moving out of others way yet.
Hello!
I am having bilateral hip replacement next week. 53 years old with RA. Anterior approached. Looking forward to being able to take the dog for a walk.
Good luck Jay, I had a bilateral hip replacement in August and can honestly say even though there were difficult times now past all that and enjoying the pain free times. I was 55 yrs old at the time and could barely walk now I can walk pain free...still using crutches if doing alot of walking due to weak knees that also need replacing, but on short walks no stick or crutches.
Mental thing is people aware more if you have an aid in crowded places.
