I had my gallstone taken more than 30 years ago but recently a gallstone was found in my bile duct. An ERCP was conducted to take it out. Since then, my body has been generating massive amount of gallstones (10 to 20 gallstones), requiring ERCPs every 3 to 4 months. Doctors recently placed a stent in the bile duct to help with the flow of gallstones and slush. Stents need to be replaced every 3 months. I take Ursodiol 3X / day. I eat low fat. Nothing is helping minimize gallstones. Does anyone have similar case and/or do you have any advice as to what else to do?
I drink mineral water. Not seltzer water -mineral water has helped me lots. Good luck
Oh my goodness! Poor you! This must really be having a big impact on your life. I don't have any advice but I had to say that I really feel for you and I hope you fine a cure or way to manage the situation x
So sorry to hear you are suffering this painful issue. I had stones caught In my bile duct & the attacks are so painfully horrendous . I had my GB out and no more pain.
Have you seen a gastrointerologist a specialist who will give you the advice.
Once stones begin to form my dr said its best to remove the GB. It's not a necessary organ to live with. Hopefully you will find life soon. Just get some peace and rest from pain!
Cheers.
Thank you. I have taken my gallbladder out 35 years ago. This large amount of gallstones in my bile duct started a year and a half ago after performing the first ERCP. I have 3 doctors but they have found no solution besides regular ERCPs. Thus my question to all if anyone has had similar cases and any different solutions than conducting ERCP. Many thanks
That is just unbelievable. I cannot imagine the sort of quality of life you must have. What on earth makes the stones without your gallbladder?
I am so sorry to hear how much you are suffering. I think you must be a very brave person to undergo repeated treatment. I had my gall bladder removed 52 years ago, . My pain/bloating/diarrhoea/nausea only started when I was given an oestrogen suppressant, 5 yrs ago for breast cancer when I was 75 yrs old. This med. has helped to save my life, so I shouldn't grumble. My first attempt at ERCP 4 yrs ago was unsuccessful, and very traumatic. I am waiting, dreading another attempt by a different consultant at another hospital. because my symptoms are increasing. in severity. I wondered if statins would help, as they reduce cholesterol levels and therefore stone formation. ? Just an idea......, and drink a lot of water. I really hope you improve soon. Regards. Joan
Thank you for your response and sorry to hear about your ERCP experience. Hope you find a good Dr. to perform as it requires an experienced Dr. to conduct successfully and avoid any Pancreatitis. My cholesterol level, interestingly, is good both on the LDL and HDL sides. However, your point is taken and was planning to ask my Dr whether we should consider Cholesterol medication. Many thanks for your advice
