After cataract removal about 10 days ago, I’m vexed by double vision ( doesn’t occur in each eye singly, only when using both eyes ), which I’ve never had before. surgery was otherwise perfect. Grateful for any experiences … ?
I have a drop shadow effect on letters in one eye only. I’m sure it is from residual astigmatism.

Is there any chance you had some prism correction in your eyeglasses? Prism is not corrected by IOLs. Correction requires eyeglasses.
i did have a prism lens in my glasses, but for the other eye! had cataract removal in that eye 15 months ago with zero issues afterwards. so am bemused this time…
I don’t know much about prism as I have never had it. I kind of think of it as a wheel alignment on your car. Are both front wheels pointed in the same direction? When you correct with eyeglasses you have control of both eyes you can bring the images from each to keep them in alignment. With contacts or IOLs you lose that control.

Do you have eyeglasses that are appropriate for the correction you need post surgery in both eyes? If yes and they have prism which corrects the double image problem then prism would seem to be the issue. And, of course it is only 10 days, so the eye will still be healing. It takes 3 weeks for the majority of the recovery, and 6 weeks for full recovery.

No, not to my pretty certain knowledge. Wondering if there has been a “dodgy” muscle whose effects were masked by the cataract. I’ve a couple of weeks to wait until optician’s appt!
The reason I ask is that BINOCULAR diplopia is usually either a muscle thing or a brain thing. Monocular is usually a media thing (tear film, cornea, lens, macula). Did they do a paralyzing injection for the surgery or just topical gels and such?
