Biopsy with BPH & ASAP

Age 59 & Just had a biopsy done after two MRIs & the report stated:

BPH at 11 out of 12 samples: Doctor advised using Proscar. I have done some research (including FDA website for the side effects of this medication) & learned a lot about the side effects of it, but I would appreciate any advice from anyone who experienced with Proscar currently or in the past.

ASAP (Atypical Small Acinar Proliferation): The report stated one sample shows ASAP, suspicious for adenocarcinoma, focus based on lack of basal cells and faint racemase staining in the lesional area with proper controls. I am not sure I understand this completely, done some research but still unsure what to expect of it.

Any advice is appreciated.

Just wondering what your symptoms were to warrant two MRI's? Also, were the MRI's the 3T?

Hi psa or elevated psa is allowed to go for MRI by most Insurance. Do not listen to your urology doctor for whatever he/she tell you. It's you with your right to ask him/her for that referral. The referral office told me that the patient can have second opinion (or 2nd MRI) if you do not satisfy with the first. I had 2 because the first one is w/o contrast & it was not a DCE MRI. I did not know at first. The radiologist who read the MRI slide suggested this method for better reading. Yes, go with 3T machine. Look, you must plan ahead to know what & where to go to. Otherwise, you just get whatever they have available.

Reason for MRI: to make sure a biopsy is needed. If MRI shows nada, then wait for another time. My MRI report said "suspicious" that is the reason I go ahead with biopsy. It unfortunately the only way to know, but it missed sometime. Now my biopsy report said " suspicious" again at one location as I stated. Doc gave me the Proscar for bph & do psa again in 6 mons. I will try other herbs with same functions & LEARNING the asap finding in the report.

Psa started with low then almost double every year. Last was 14.7 but drop to 11.7.

Most people now aday know that psa may mean nothing without other test.
