Bisoprolol 1.25

Hi everyone

As you know I've been on these since Dec 31st 2017. Tried to come off them but heart rate went up so Back on 1.25 (previous 2.5 mg)

Spoken to a gastro specialist this week as tummy sore and she's referred me back to Cics saying as I'm feeling low and anxious to have some cbt.

I'm trying to come off these dreaded things altogether, my Doctor says thsts fine, it's not though. I'm down half a tablet and feel more like my old self but suffer with anxiety (never had it before)

Anyone else has no support from Doctor regarding this? I feel awful as I zmbtrying to come off the ruddy things. I don't need to speak to someone about slight anxious feelings it's the tablets!!

Sorry rang over xx

There are several known alternative beta blockers to bisoprolol.  All of them are more expensive for the health trust to prescribe, but if you insist, a change to something different can be made.  There are many discussions surrounding this on the AF forum of HealthUnlocked.

Same here. My anxiety since being on these, 1.25mg,is still bothering me on a daily basis. Been trying to get off them since Feb this year and taking a quarter of a quarter morning and night. Getting bad palpitations every other night(God knows why it's every other night) some going up to 160.

Have lots of nervous issues l certainly didn't have before l started on these so the sooner l get off them the better. Fingers crossed will be before Christmas!

Please can you send details of alternatives as I am keen to stop the cardicor. Many thanks.xx

Hi I too am suffering in many different ways as a result of this drug. I understand that they have to be weaned off.

Hi trace,

My hubbies blood pressure went up when he stopped them, it was all over the place. Depending on the outcome you want, you sometimes have to suffer the withdrawal symptoms for a while. We were in the doctors some 3 months later and the doctor said the effects of this drug could still be in the system. Nasty horrible drug.

Sadly, 1.25mg is the smallest dose available, 2.5mg, 5mg and 10mg being the 'normal' doses with 10mg the upper limit in the UK (but not elsewhere, I have heard).  Yes, you have to wean off them.  Try cutting them in half, and then after a few days having half a day.  Recommendation is over two weeks, I have heard.

Alternatives are Metoprolol,  Nebivolol,  Atenolol, Propranolol,  I think there are others.  However, a lot depends on what the beta-blocker was prescribed for.  Beta-blockers are not good for anyone with Asthma, but Nebivolol can be tolerated in small doses.  There are also calcium channel blockers for those who cannot tolerate the normal beta-blockers, but only for certain heart conditions and not others.  Only your doctor(s) can recommend what to try.

Thanks Jen hope your hubby is going on ok now.

Awful drug isn't it

All the best xx

Hi yes am cutting them in half at the moment got more energy but still not feeling fight in myself xx

Thanks all for you comments, it's nice to chat with others who are having these problems it's not good xx

hi there,

Yes I have experienced the same.

Doctors believe I need to see a Psychologist rather than fo something about these medications.

Mardi 😊

The doctors know how to put you on these but do not know how to take you off them. I'm almost off them completely. I was originally taking 2.5mg and now I'm down to 0.4mg I'd say. Best way to get off them is to weigh each and every time you take them, go down 0.1mg each week until you get to 0.5mg, so 2.5, 2.4, 2.3 and so on. While getting off them I take a natural herb called ashwaghanda, it's been a life saver for anxiety because it's a adaptogen which helps your body adjust to stresses alot better. Things you would need are

Milligram scale.

Razor blade( to cut pill to exact dose)

Ashwaghanda herb for anything stress related towards coming off them.

Trust me I've tried everything else and nothing worked until I did it the way I just posted!!! GOODLUCK!!!

Hi Jen

Like your husband l too have very high blood pressure since reducing Bisoprolol 1.25. Been awful and feeling ill and muggy most days. Also nose and throat feel thick(only way l can describe it). How is your husbands bp now, has it come down any or still same? Today mine has been the lowest for a while...139 over 75. Most days it's been 167 over 100. Am really hoping things will improve from now so thought I'd ask you for an update.

Thanks.

Hi christine,

Hubby has been off bisoprolol since the middle of april. His blood pressure has now settled down but, this drug has left him with ectopic heart beats which in turn caused him to have an ICD implanted. Next month he is going to see about an ablation, never will either of us touch a beta blocker again. Personally I think bisoprolol should bd banned.

Thanks for reply Jen.

Am glad hubby is off the Bisoprolol but a great shame it's left him with another problem.

I'm just sick of all my tablets...Bisoprolol, canderstarten etc. Had a potassium rich meal last night, salmon potatoes broccoli and tomato. Didn't realise it would cause my throat to almost close up in the early hours. Thought l was eating healthily but looks like l was seeing.myself off!

Phoned Dr to ask for advice, still waiting...

That was a good meal christine, is it the medication you are taking messing up your system and counteracting with the food. Bit odd to have a reaction to the food you have eaten. Have you googled each tablet to see if other people have had this problem. I tend to put the tablet into google search and look at reviews.

Yes Jen have googled canderstarten vs food but apart from potassium rich foods, i.e. what l ate last night, no one has said they have expirienced the same. Obviously l am unique in weirdness!

Dr said to stay off the bp tablets and monitor my pressure regularly so will do that. Hope it doesn't go through the roof. My last test for potassium levels was in April she said and it was within the guidelines so stumped as to what has caused this setback.

How lovely christine to be so unique ha, ha. You have taught me something today, I will learn more about potassium. I remember when my sister was ill, she thought a nurse was against her and wanted her sent home apparently, her potassium level was low.

I personally am not a lover of prescription drugs and try to use natural food or supplements but my hubby takes anything prescribed and is finding the side effects from some of them are not good.

Hi Are u saying that bisoprolol lowers potassium?
