thanks lolasmom. I too have many of these symptoms. I'm 15 months after stopping 30 years metprolol. it's good to know there is an end in sight somewhere.
Hi Theresa,
The symptoms of a lump in throat, stomach problems, excessive burping is acid reflux/GERD, if you do get those again, have a 1/4 spoon of bicarbonate in a glass of water, it works. Tablets mess up the gut, we then need to re-establish out gut bacteria.
Hi Jen
Thank you for your reply will give it a go.
It's been 15 months withdrawaling from 30 years of metoprolol use.
Have you now got over all your withdrawal symptoms? I am reducing very slowly but still experiencing what I think are anxiety symptoms weird creepy feelings in my legs, arms and head and being woken sharply in the night by these weird feelings also periods throughout the day when I feel ill and have just got to sit down with my eyes closed for about half an hour. I will not be off these tabs until beginning of August and was only on them for 3 months when I started reducing.
Not over them yet. I will have a few good days followed by several days of symptoms all over again. I think they call this the rebound affect. Getting better, but very slowly. Anxiety still felt, which I never had before. What's weird is that I went back on my beta blocker after the first 3 months of symptoms, but they never went away even after restarting. Two cardiologists and three MD's act as though they're clueless. I seem to know more than them regarding all this. They are always trying to point towards anxiety but not the cause, or imbalance clearly showing in my adrenaline.

You would be amazed at how little the cardiologist actually about the drugs they prescribe, one of the cardiologist nurses told us this on a follow up appointment. They have the list of drugs they are told to prescribe, that is it, we then need to educate ourselves, thank god for the internet.
agree!
Hi Jen86183 Thank you for the advice about the Bach rescue remedy the drops and spray have helped. I also bought the pastilles but didnt think they did much good. I am still withdrawing very slowly but some days its very hard especially if I have had two or three nights when I have been awake most of the night. How are you doing now? Hopefully most of your withdrawal has gone now and you can start to live a normal life again.
All I can say is to take your time. I was told to stop cold turkey 5 days prior to an attempted ablation. I asked if that was okay to do, Of course he said it was just fine. It WAS NOT OKAY The physical and mental stuff was horrendous.
The problem was, at that time \I did not realize this was withdrawal from biso, and thought it was anxiety. I was then put on trazodone and a benzo (clonazepam)Big mistake. I took those for 18m months, and then weaned off for 9 months. I was having withdrawals 20 months after stopping them
If I knew then what I know now. I would never have taken them. Lost 3 years of my life.
Nannyknitting,
I am glad the Bach Remedy helped. My hubbies side effects from bisoprolol lasted a few months but did cause ectopic beats which set off a chain effect, he had a defibrillator fitted followed by an ablation, he is still being treated nearly two years down the line.
Even the apixaban I was given took months for the anxiety to settle. I volunteer at my local hospital and see the amount of drugs people are given, it makes me more determine to find natural remedies.
I hope you start to recover soon, take care.
Thank you for your support. At the rate I am withdrawing it is going to be August before I can get off this nightmare tablet. Finding it difficult to cut 2.5mg tablet down to size at the moment, cutting it in quarters but then having to shave off tiny bits down to what I think the dosage should be plus taking a 1.25mg tablet. Started from 2.5mgs and only down to about 1.75 at the moment. Doctor has given me anti depressants (which side effect is anxiety) and diazepam which I dont want to take. I am taking holy basil capsules which I think are helping and Back rescue remedy if the anxiety gets bad. Other main problem is I can get to sleep at night but always awake around 1.15am and cant get back to sleep so utterly exhausted through the day. I feel a little better later in the day but dread having to go to bed at night.
it will get better, just takes a long time. I would wake up at 3am every morning, but finally stopped after 15 months.
Thank you Kent I hold onto these threads and count the days when I am no longer on this tablet. I hope you are able to live your normal life now.
Please please, really consider not taking the diazepam. That opens you up to whole mess of problems. That is a benzo. As I mentioned I did not realize my withdrawals from bisoprolol were in fact withdrawals. Then starting the benzo was a nightmare, and weaning off including post withdrawal was worse than a nightmare.
Stopping cold turkey for my ablation attempt was the beginning of a nightmare. But doctors have not clue.
I forgot to mention Of not course with the bisoprolol because |I just stopped it, but with the benzo, I used a magnifying glass, and a razor blade to cut my pill. It certainly was not the best, but I always had one for an example from previous dose. Shaved another down making sure it was smaller than my previous dose.
The doctor prescribed me Bisoprolol 5mg two pills a day for two to three weeks, then I started weaning a little until it stopped completely after less than two months and the symptoms began to appear. Less but still. Three months since I stopped taking this evil drug, the secret heartbeat and dizziness have gone away, but I still have a sore throat, suffocation, frequent swallowing, difficulty swallowing, and the ringing in the ears, but it became lighter, and when I asked the doctor, he told me it has nothing to do with this drug. I suffer from anxiety with Knowing that I did not suffer from such symptoms in my life until after I used Bisoprolol and stopped it. I am much better, but anxiety always accompanies me. As for pain when swallowing or pressure on the ears, but according to what I read here, I am not the only one. Almost everyone suffers from the same symptoms, and this is somewhat reassuring. I hope whoever found a cure that speeds up the withdrawal process will help us and everyone's safety
I have now been off bisoprolol for 10 months and I suffer worse from PVC s than before I started on bisoprolol. I also had eye problems which has now nearly cleared and many many more side effects especially the anxiety which I still have on occasions. I think it takes a long long time for symptoms to disappear and some may never go. My consultant wants me to start on further medication for my heart which I know carries many side effects and withdrawal symptoms but unless its a matter of life or death I am not going on them. Some people dont suffer at all either taking biso or coming off it but because many of us do the doctors and consultants put it down to depression and anxiety which we never suffered before so unless it is looked into scientifically I think it will continue with some people getting severe withdrawal.
Have any of you experienced long-term withdrawal effects from Bisprol? For example, strings in the eyes when I look forward. I feel like there are spider-shaped strings while looking with fluttering of the eyelashes.
