Hello all,
Ok how long before anyone engaged in sex again after THR? I appreciate not top of the list afterwards but all counts to a complete recovery and like to think I am amongst friends on the forum and we can discuss all. I am only few days post op and obviously concentrating on my recovery at the moment. Doing ok and taking my drugs and religiously carrying out my exercises.

I was told 6 weeks. Engaged in ‘this’ activity at 7.5 weeks with no restraints or fears and greater flexibility.
It’s nice to have something fun to look forward to. With my first hip replacement I discussed this activity with my physical therapist as I’d heard (again we are among friends here) horror stories that I would not be able to put my legs up in the air _/ she had me show her what I meant (at 3.5 weeks). All I will say is there were no restrictions and everything was so much more comfortable with the new hip. !
If you really want a laugh imagine that we had been researching ‘safe’ sexual positions for HIPPIES and during weeks 4, 5 and 6 I was practicing ALONE and cracking up as I tried practicing these things ALONE - really it was a hoot and fun to think about and funny as heck to remember. In the end we never needed any modified positions.

Wait at least 6 weeks … but ask your surgeon as you may not even be allowed then, it all depends on how you are recovering.

Hubby and I were sexually active at week 3. Positions were very limited and we were very careful. The first two times it was hard to relax. But with patience it all fell in place.
I am now 9 months post op and we continue to research safe positions. In all honesty it has been alot of fun and very rewarding.
not too long maybe 3- 4 weeks . try new positions.
