Recently I posted on here about using blephagel and how helpful I found it as opposed to anything else I had used, well, obviously I still get the occasional flare up and these past few days, after constantly using my gel, I found they just got too sore and swollen and gunky to tollerate the blephagel near it, so desparate, I started applying with my fingers, from a tall glass beaker, plain simple cold fresh tap water and amazingly enough, I found after doing this repeatedly for about ten minutes, and then wiping the excess away eventually with mansize tissues, that the swelling actually went down and bizarrely enough, after three days of constant pain and soreness, they are now very nearly calm and back to normal, so I know it may sound way too simple a solution, but I just wondered if this would help anyone when the mere thought of applying a gel or an eye drop seems too much, eyes are very delicate and the tap water alone seems to have got my eyes back on an even keel, so I am just sharing in case this method is of any use to anyone
How about trying a gel bead mask that you have cooled in refrigerator? Cool is supposed to help swelling. I recently tried Blephagel and can't see that it is helping so won't reorder.
Thanks , Fiona. I think when Blepharitis flares it's worth trying anything to calm it down. It's such a miserable condition. Minor, I know, when you think of the major health problems some have but it is just so misery inducing.
I can can feel my eyes starting to flare again after 6 months of calm

You will try anything when a flare up occurs...I have just had a flare up myself and am still in a bit of discomfort but it isnt as bad as it was. I actually got worse after I had been to see my eye specialist and he put 2 lots of drops in my eyes.....then said I am on the highest medication for it so nothing else they can do and discharged me....didnt seem interested much at all....
I bought a gel mask that goes in the fridge and also it can be warmed up in hot water but I have only tried it from the fridge and it certainly makes a difference...the relief is immediate cooling the heat inflamed eyes...the one I bught has the eye holes in and elastic to put over your head, I look a monster but hey who cares as long as it relieves the symptoms
I use The Blephasol Lotion and Blephasol Wipes and find both help me....I also bought a sleep mask that keeps moisture in the eye while sleeping and I have found that to be good too for the dry eye of which I have, the ony down side to the sleep mask is when washed has to be drip dried which takes ages so I have ordered another 1 but they are £14.95 so are not cheap....but at least if I have 2 I wont have to go without wearing it as I do feel a difference.
I will try the tap water next flare up ......
Hi, a mask sounds like a good idea in a way but unfortunately I am on an extremely tight budget since the PIP dept in their almighty wisdom decided not to grant me my rightful allowance so doubt I could afford it, at least tap water is free! I am sorry you found no success with blephagel, I find it helps so much I always keep some in, all the best.
Hi, I agree, I know pros assume blepharitis is a minor thing, I know compared to my prolapsed bowel, which is astonishingly debilitating, so i know which of the two I'd rather have, but yes, it's still quite misery inducing, I've had a nasty attack for four days running, I used gel for two days, then thry got so intensely sore they couldnt bare ANY chemicals nesr them, so went over to the tap water, now today back using the gel with some success, they are finally settling down!
That was "people" not pros, my predictive text is having a fit!

Hi, I can't afford a mask as unfortunately the PIP dept stripped me of my DLA and these things are just no longer affordable, but at least tap water is free. I find blephagel enormously helpful, it's good and thick, seems to have just the right chemical balance to settle my eyes down and comes in an enormous great tube so I rarely run out or have to 're order.
Fiona, I live in US and Walmart sells gel masks for about $3. Not sure how that translates there. Maybe 5£?? Seems like Walmart everywhere. Although don't remember seeing one when I visited England a few years back.
No we don't have Wal-Mart in England and another lady on here tells me hers cost £14
I knew you are a civilized, classy country, Fiona!! But sorry you don't have access to inexpensive gel mask which can be used warm or cold
I know prices vary from country to country but I'm happy to go on using tap water to be honest, a couple of years back I bought an eye bag, it was not available on the national health and cost me £20 for all the good it did.
Great that tap water helps. £20 sounds outrageous. Especially if it didn't help. Cheers!!
Thanks Fiona, I stick to this site like a religion. You wll alwys find me lurkin here. I was having success with the wet ones, and accidently poured essical oil in my eye. It was the middle of the night, I thought it was eye drops. No harm too my sight at all, but it's more uncomfortable than my left eye. Yeah, I know- what a stupid thing to do. Anyway, it seems to be letting up some. You know, they can send a man to the moon, but ther can't cure this. ???
The baby shampoo was irritating my eyes, I now only use tap water. Even to take off my cosmstics, ( it's ALL only eyeshadow anyway), except a pencil for my eyebrows). I use a q-tip to wipe with a small peice of the wet ones, so nothng touchs the botom of my eye. Eyes are really doing much better, oh, and I also use eyedrops. Dena
