Does anyone find that the bladder is very sensitive after the op
Needed to wee a lot, medications and fluid retention due to swelling. Had to get up at night more than usual, I think lying on my back to sleep at least partially made my bladder more sensitive as amounts produced were not huge
Yes I had a cathiter ...never again.....

Yes I did for the first two or three weeks but id does get back to normal quite quickly. I did wonder what was going on but it seems to be quite normal.
Hi Marilyn ... do you mean that you can barely make it to the toilet??? yes ... so emberassing even when alone .... it does not come up suddenly or someting,, but when I need to go and stand up, for some reason, I almost have to rush to be on time ... not funny ... I am 14 weeks post op .. the weeing a lot I had in the weeks after surgery and had UTI 3 days after I was discharged ...
is it possible then that somehow this has to do with THR ????

Oh yes deffo. I had problems before the hip op because I had a totall hystorectomy only 8 months before. When they do one of those they have to move your bladder and stich it to another part of your body. This caused me problems which just before the hip op was starting to ease. It all strted again after the hip op on the left side and at ten weeks post op it is getting better except the first time on a morning when I still find I have to rush. But I am again going to have to go through it when I have the right side done in a few weeks time.
do you really have to have one, got to go to see my doc next month to say I will have the op, thanks to all the lovely people here giving me encouragement, no body mentioned one of those. Sue

it's normal to wee a lot after the op. Something to do with s reaction to fluids they give you.
Because of restricted mobility, rushing to the loo not an option! And when you do get there trying to negotiate onto the loo....
Soon wears off though but still have to set off to the loo in good time, if you get my drift. That's only until more mobile and then gets back to normal

Well...I had a catheter fitted 12 hours post op as no pee...I then suddenly with catheter peed a litre!
In following weeks yes peed frequently..about 5 times a night.
This slowed down at 6 weeks to 1 or 2 times a night: pre op it was 2 or 3 times so long term seems better the b4 the op!
Guess all of us will be different!

No catheter and no problems other than urgency to go after the operation. No one even mentioned having a catheter as they like to get you up and out of bed ASAP.
Because I went to spire I in their booklet they mentioned that sometimes some patients will have to have a catheter, I think it it depends on the surgeon and the hospital too
