My bladder fell to a stage 3 , six weeks after the surgery. I just saw a different doctor. This one is at the Cleveland Clinic. He said.."it's not your fault...you did nothing wrong...your doctor didn't do a good job...she only did half the surgery." Now I am scheduled for another surgery in April. We all know what we went through, and to have to have it again!..I am so depressed!! Plus I have a pacemaker, on Coumadin, a blood thinner for Atrial Fibrillation. I'm 77 yrs old and if I don't have the surgery my kidneys may fill up again with urine and I will need dialysis. PLEASE BE SURE YOUR SURGEON HAS HAD A LOT OF EXOERIENCE before you chose him/her.
Are you in the UK dorothy?
So sorry to hear this! Are you getting it done again and when? Will be praying for you!!
Absolutely Dorothy...it's so important to have someone who is experienced in what you need. It is why I stayed with my lead Urogynacologist in Worcester, when I moved to Somerset. I had to travel over 100miles to the hospital for my surgery. but felt confident, as he told me that he also teaches the Operation that I had.
It is so important a Urogynaecologist performs the surgery and not just a gynaecologist. Urogynaecologists have undertaken the important extra training and are carefully monitored. If a surgeon didn't perform the surgery to the standards expected then he/she is accountable and the patient has every right to complain
Oh I'm so sorry you are having to have surgery again. Stay strong ! x
Mine was just a gynaecologist but many years experience and utero-vaginal prolapse is down as one of his specialist areas so I guess you just have to research them but it is difficult ! 9 weeks on, fingers crossed he did know what he was doing 😳
You have to ensure he is a Urogynaecologist and has undertaken the extra training. Gynaecologists can have years have experience but have not undertaken that extra important training
Mine was too but has had many years in this surgery I'm 8 weeks on Tuesday 😳
My surgeon is a gynaecologist too 😳
But is he a Urogynaecologist?
Hi Dorothy. Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. I'm having similar surgery soon plus ovaries removed, I'm 72. I've had two prolapse op's in the past but things are supposed to be much improved these days. As you're in the US you could probably sue as she didn't perform the surgery correctly when I assume you paid for it! I hope all goes well next time, keep in touch if you feel like a chat anytime. We're all emapathetic. Best wishes, Pollyanna UK
Not sure lol 😊
I hope it was
No, I'm in the U. S. OHIO, I came upon your forum. It's the best, so I thought it was good for me, even though I'm not in the UK
You're right dorothy. It's good to share experiences and I'm always interested in what happens in the USA. I've met a few doctors from America
In April. I have had blood in my urine and cancer cells in my urine since before the surgery. My original surgeon said she would do a Cystoscopy every three months, but the new doctor said the cancer could be in the kidneys, and he wants another urologist to do a workup to see if they can find the site of the cancer first. So he thinks the surgery will be in April.
Yes, the new doctor also teaches and is head of the department at the Cleveland clinic. It is far from my home, so for convince, I Chose a doctor that was 15 minutes away. MISTAKE! My husband still works and we have one car, and I didn't want to bother my sister and neighbors to have to drive me for appointments etc.
Yes, the new doctor is a urogynecologist. I thought that because I had a hysterectomy A regular urologist would be okay. I thank everyone for responding and those that will be praying for me. God Bless You all.
Thank You Bunky
