Bleed into new knee joint 8 days after TKR

Hi there I had a TKR 17 days ago and all was going well until day 8 when I had acute excruciating pain in my new knee joint. Went to A & E and they diagnosed a bleed into the new joint. They said the cause was the fact that the anti dvt tablets were working too well. The consultant said rest it for a while but it's now 9 days later and I still have swelling and can't bend my leg much at all. Before the bleed I was progressing well with a 70 degree bend but now without being able to do the bending physio I'm worried that I won't get the range of movement that I should have. Has anyone experienced a bleed similar to mine and how long was it before you could properly do all the exercises again? Thanks Mike

I had no problems with the bend I had in my knee since the op I used my foot on my good leg to help push back and  forward as much as I could when sitting.   I still can't do a good bend when lying on the bed.

i didn't have a bleed like you but my leg after the op was black from thigh to underneath my footand very swollen so I couldn't do the exercises

I'm now 5 weeks post op and the knee is still bruised and swollen...the bend is only 83% despite physio

  so don't worry you will get there??some people progress faster than others

mike that's shockingly bad luck. I bet it doesn't happen very often. I haven't read it on here before. Good luck to you for your recovery I hope it doesn't delay it too much.
