Bleeding and Irregular Periods

Hi

I am 44 and in the last few months my periods have changed considerably. I have always had really heavy periods, my periods lasted about 5 days but days 2 and 3 were always extremely heavy. My cycle was always 28 days.

In the last couple of months my periods are now lasting 7 days and really heavy throughout which i need to wear 2/3 sanitary towels and super + tampon and still soak through.

Last month I went 6 weeks without a period then it came with a vengeance, lasted 7 days and then a couple of days after I found a couple of clots in between periods.

Last Monday (a week after my last period had finished) I went to the toilet and noticed that I urinated blood. But nothing when I wiped . An hour later I checked nothing there. (In November I had two surgeries for kidney stones so I thought maybe they had come back) later in the evening I was tending to my 1 year old daughter and as I stood up a big gush of blood came out, absolutely soaking me and the sofa. I got in the bath and it was like a blood bath. I went to bed with lots of sanitary towels and tampons expecting a very heavy period, but when I woke up there was nothing there again. I had nothing until the afternoon when I coughed and again another big gush of blood and lots and lots of massive clots. I then got a very heavy period for about two days and then stopped with the exception of some spotting. Monday this week I noticed spots of blood at the bottom of the toilet bowl. Then 2 spots on my knickers the following day. Last night and this morning I got some random shooting pains near my left hip and I used a dipstick to test my urine (I do this regularly to test for infections to prevent my kidney stones) It showed ++++200 blood, although there was non visible. Tonight I tested again and aswell as showing the same ++++200 there was one smallish blood clot in the urine. I saw my doctor on Friday and he didn't seem to phased by it all and has given me birth control to start on my next period to try and regulate me. But the bleeding in between I cannot help but be worried. Any clues what this may be? Is it normal maybe for age? Should I go back to gp? Sorry for long post but wanted to give as much information as possible.

Did you say you had your op in November 2014?

Im too having major period problems as a result of an op. I have an ovary removed, a D&C and a uterus and bladder investigation in November 2014. I didnt have a period till Feb 18th 2015 and have been bleeding since!

It was light for a week followed by a week of horrendous flooding and clots and then this week has started to ease off a little thanks to a dose of transexamic acid. But thats still 3 weeks which has really frightened me. Im 39 btw.

The doctor said my hormones are still messed up and i should expect that even more so as its the first period after the op. Im just worried that this could be a sign of things to come for me.

Ive been reading up alot on peoples experiences after the surgery i had and in general it seems any kind of surgery can mess with your periods due to hormonal imbalnce, stress etc.

Hi

Yes I did have surgery but it was not gynae it was kidney ops so not sure if it should affect them but maybe. I do hope you get some relief soon.

I am going back to gp Monday. The heavy bleeding may ease off once I start the pill he has given me but not allowed to start that til first day of next period. But the in between bleeding and blood in urine is what is concerning me at the moment. Not sure if he will do much, but I am hoping to be referred to a gynaecologist if possible to make sure that it is nothing to worry about. Not sure how I go about that if I can actually put a request in, or if I have to go down other routes first.

Im sure ive read things saying any type of body stress can mess up the system so im sure that could be the case.

Are you sure the blood is actually in your urine and not just coming when youve had a wee from the period? Just an idea
