Hello ladies. I'm new to this site and not sure what to do but here goes. I have more soreness and fresh bleeding from the stitches which happened after my first bm 3 days ago. I didn't strain but feel I may have done some damage. Fresh blood and too sore to clean properly. Is this normal? Also how best to avoid infection? Thanks xxxx
Hello jo jo. Firstly infection following prolapse surgery is rare so there aren't any hard and fast rules on how to avoid an infection. As for your bleeding how do you know it's from your stitches because they are usually internal? Have you got an external wound? Is the blood from your rectum? Sorry about all the questions but just trying to establish what's going on so I can help.
Hi. No rectal stitches. The soreness and bleed seem to be from external stitches to the vaginally opening. I can feel soreness there when wiping. Hope this makes sense? !
Have you been bleeding for 3 days jo jo?
Yes. Fresh blood when wiping or rather dabbing. Not enough to need to change pad but still there on each toilet trip. Too scared to have a look. Rang hospital this am for advice and they said may have just disturbed some stitches and leave it for a few days.
I agree with the hospital jo jo. This does occasionally happen. The other thing I was thinking about was haemorrhoids because they often occur following a posterior repair. You need to make sure you rest, absolutely no lifting and basically do nothing.
Hi Jo Jo I'm now 2 weeks and 6 days post posterior repair - I had my op on the thurs and first BM on the sun and although I didn't strain I was sore and with some fresh bleeding after - since then I haven't had any fresh bleeding except on one day when I was felling pretty good and got a bit carried away and spent too long on my feet- with the help of matron and the rest of the lovely ladies in here I'm learning to take it easier
so based on my experience what you are describing sounds quite normal - if you are worried about infect as it's too tender to wipe thorughly then I suggest a quic "sqoosh" with the shower head with Luke warm water in that general area - unless matron this that's a bad idea ????
Hello deborah. No a quick sqoosh with the shower head is a good idea. Jo jo if you have been told not to have a bath for 6 weeks just 1 sqoosh though. I do like that word sqoosh lol.
Thanks for the advise Deborah. It helps to know I'm almost normal! Were you very sore too? X
hi there , i didnt have a posterior repair i had an anterior one, i did have an infection roughly 2 weeks after my operation , was really smelly but didnt have fresh blood it was old looking brown blood i had and it was minimal , hope u feel better soon
Thanks matron - it's a well known technical / medical term in the west of scotland 😂 JoJo I was told no swimming or baths for first 6 weeks so it's sensible that matron asks that question in case you are thinking a bath would be a nice soothing/ cleansing thing.
In terms of pain/ soreness I was particular sore after my first couple of BMs not just in the area of surgery but general stomach / intestine/ lower abdominal area - think this is because bowels were sluggish etc ( if you are on co-codomol it's apparently well known for "bunging you up" the rest of the time I have only been sore from over doing it because in general I have felt quite well but have learned now I suffer for it later .... But you will see from the post on here everyone's recovery is very individual but always post and ask for advice because someone is sure to have gone through something similar
Ha ha loving the sqoosh word too,I used that too post op,made me feel so much better but please take it easy and keep resting, take all the advice you are given on here,a bunch of amazing ladies who have all been through what you have. Take care x
