Bleeding on HRT

After struggling for three years, with hot sweats, not sleeping, and with mood swings, went on HRT . I'd had no period in that time. I was on HRT for about three weeks then started to bleed, and have a period which has continued for two months , with clots also , which I find so strange, and painful contractions, The doctor has now changed my medication, I was wondering if this is a common side affect ,?

Hi, I'm on hrt patches and had no side effects, but some hrt meds do cause bleeding or spotting. Hope this helps x

I've been on HRT for about 3 months now and I do have some spotting from time to time and they say that's normal for the first 6 months. I haven't had any real heavy bleeding but the spotting will last off and on for a little over a week and it's very random. I don't think you're supposed to have heavy bleeding so it's probably good that your doctor change your medication.

It sounds like you are getting too much estrogen.  Which is the hormone that causes the lining of the uterus to build up.  When a woman has a uterus, you should be given progesterone to offset this undesirable effect.  Clotting is a very common symptom of lack of progesterone.  You need to talk to your doctor, and make certain that you are getting an adequate amount of progesterone to protect your uterine lining.
