Did anyone else have this? The pesky little blighters took some getting out. My lovely clean wound is now bleeding
So sorry, Cels! Mine came out clean as a whistle, and there was no bleeding at all. Did the nurse who removed them give you any advice about this?
I'll find out later today and let you know. I hope the answer is "no" and time will tell.
I had a small amount of bleeding from a couple but nothing major. Bleeding is a sign of healthy tissue so it will heal quickly. Unless it's a lot of blood I wouldn't be too concerned.

Sorry, Cels, I had superglue, so no help. I would imagine that's quite normal, isn't it, given that they are fixed into the skin?
I had my carpal tunnel done a couple of years ago. Underneath the massive bandage there was an extremely ugly, red, raised mountain range scar with stitches that looked like a child had done them (I know the sugeon did them and watched most of it until I noticed that she has the most amazing false eyelashes on!!!) .
Anyway, I returned after ten days to have the stitches out and although they bled as she unpicked them, the scar almost disappeared right before my eyes. Oh and the bleeding stopped in a couple of hours.
I hope it feels better at least with the staples out

Very sad to hear this but I hope it will heal well from here on
I was lucky (knock on wood) with removal ( cannot lie, it did hurt, but I swear it hurt my GP more than me). My incision remains good although not completely healed.
Don' t get too discouraged, but keep an eye out for any discharge and consult with your GP immediately if worried.
Hoping this is just a blip.

She said not to worry, put on a clean dressing and told me I could take it off when I was ready and wash the wound. She said if it got very sore or hot then to contact the sugery. Checked the dressing earlier and there's only a tiny patch of blood. It's probably just me worrying because wasn't expecting it.

Nope - like AnnieK's, no bleeding at all.
Shouldn't bleed too much I'd have thought, if it does, see someone to get another opinion. Perhaps it was your nurse's first go at getting them out? Or had the surgeon put them in too hard?

Some of those staples seemed tightly embedded so yes, it probably is quite normal for them to cause a bit of bleeding.

They were tough to get out, and no, the nurse had deffo done it before because she asked me if I wanted to lie on the couch but said some hip patients find it easier to stand. I stood. I'm sure it's just surface bleeding. I can be a terrible whinger and when everything has gone so well I wanted this to go well too, which it probably has and it's just me being silly.

I don't think you are whinging, it is not common for staples to bleed when taken out. Hopefully just a slight blip in your recovery, and if that's the only one you get, you will be very lucky.

Yes, you're right. It probably wasn't much blood when I think about it anyway. I was standing, twisting and looking down. It probably looked worse than it was from that angle.

So, aren't I the dummy. Turns out I don't have staples, just layers of stiches that the body absorbs. Beyond that, DR. was pleased w/ the progess and I return in a month for an X-Ray then start phsical therapy, or as I've picked up on the board here, physio in UK parlance.
I'm so sorry khippie, I didn't. I was so upset at the bleeding (which has stopped now) that everything else went out of my head. I did have a look at the BUPA information on "Caring for surgical wounds" and it contains lots of useful information and doesn't recommend massaging the wound for 2-3 weeks. I will pm you the link.
