Hello. Can anyone please give me some advice. I am 15-16 weeks post op rectocele repair. I have given up with trying sex over the past month or so and finally plucked up the courage to do it again last night. Everytime I have sex I bleed after has anyone else experienced this? I thought after leaving it out for a while it would stop but it's happened again today. I know it's definitely not my period because I only had that last week but worried now as to what it can be. I've got a doctors appointment on Monday but wanted some advice if anyone has any.
Sorry for too much information.
Xxxx
Hi I tried sex again the other night I'm 13 weeks post repair (after 2 previous really uncomfortable experiences at 7 and 9 weeks)and I bled quite a bit during the actual intercourse which surprised me as it hadn't happened before. I didn't have pain as such but it wasn't great either prob because I'm still a bit nervous incase I get hurt. Lubrication isn't a problem so it's not that causing it. I also still get a bit of bloody discharge if I overdo things especially when I've been hoovering.
Hi. I waited till about 18 wks and had not bleeding but I recall reading on here that the tissue inside takes an awful long time to recover from the trauma of the op and so can cause bleeding when friction occurs. In sure matron can confirm this if I am correct. Everyone heals at different stages I suppose. I hope you get some relief. Good luck. X
Hello Mrsg85 sorry to read you're having this problem but it is quite common following prolapse repair although round about 15-16 weeks you should be able to have sex without problems. Fi-45 is correct when she says it's due to trauma and then friction. I've heard Urogynaecologists advise ladies to try a dildo to help the vagina to stretch a bit but I think it's very wise to see your doctor because any vaginal bleeding should be investigated. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on x
Thank you Matron, I am at the doctors tomorro so will see what they say. I am refusing to do
It now as it's worrying me. Hopefully will know more tomorrow.
Thanks xxx
Try not to worry, the chances are you just haven't fully healed and there's always the chance you could have a rogue suture that's not dissolved, I've seen that before. Another possibility that I just didn't think about originally is what happened to me. At around 20 weeks post op I bled during sex and rushed off to the GP, I had a small area that needed cauterising and this was done painlessly by my Urogynaecologist. I think that's probably the most likely cause.
It's worrying me because it's happened everything we had intercourse . We very been very careful and only done it about 5 times since my operation I just thought it might of stopped by now as I feel back to myself and no pain at all. Will update you tomorrow on what the doctor says, thank you for your advice this
Forum always settles my mind
Good luck and as it's painless I'm starting to think it's a similar problem to mine xx
That happened to me (~12-13 weeks, first attempt), but I thought it was the IUD I had inserted at the same time as my repair.
For me the bleeding lasted about 10 days. Reading online, it seemed as though there could be a lot of weird bleeding with an IUD so I haven't seen the doctor. I don't know if that was the right decision, but the bleeding has stopped now. I think I'll wait and see what happens next time and see a doctor if it happens again.
No answers for you, but I just wanted you to know you weren't alon. I hope everything is ok.
Hello. I went to the doctors yesterday and he wants me back again today. He thinks it could be my mire na which I had fitted at the same time as my operation he thinks it could be that or possible abnormal cells on my cervix. Going back today at 2.30 so they can have a look. Thankyou for your reply I'm such a worrier xx
I had a Mirena IUD fitted as well - It looks like we are in exactly the same boat!
Poking around online, it seemed like a lot of people with a Mirena had a lot of weird bleeding at first and I found a lot of people who had some bleeding after sex, though it seemed like it was usually spotting, not 10 days. I will definitely see the doctor if it happens again and maybe I should have the first time, it is just difficult to get in to my GP without kids.
I'm glad they can have a look and reassure you. Odds are its just your Mirena but it's definitely good to be sure!
Mrsg85 it's only natural to worry but you've got that appointment this afternoon so hopefully your doctor will be able to reassure you. DorryC is absolutely right when she mentions the bleeding with an IUD.....it's very common. I'm sure you've been going for your smears so it's more likely to be the IUD. Good luck for this afternoon xx
When I had my first mirena coil fitted I bled all the time. A very light period would last about 6weeks and I'd stop for about a wk. So obviously hubby and I took this opportunity to have sex but then it would trigger off my bleeding again. Never mind the coil preventing pregnancy. It caused so much bleeding that it was like a contraception of its own coz we never got chance to have sex much. I had this go on for yrs and I just put it down to my body reacting differently to the coil but I never looked into it. However after having that one took out when due I had another fitted and 4 mths later I developed a bad pelvic infection and was admitted to hospital. That was when I met my gynae consultant for the first time. He suspected endometriosis and referred me for a laporoscopy to confirm this which it did. So although I was bleeding with coil in he said I'd have much worse symptoms if I removed it as the hormones in the coil help keep some of symptoms at bay. This was about 6 yrs ago. But then with diagnosis of full prolapse last yr he thought it best to have a total hysterectomy (including removing of ovaries) to help with my endometriosis. So April gone I had that done along with the A&P repair and a tvt. Hoping all that done will help make life better.
Sorry I've gone off on a tangent. That probably isn't like your symptoms but just wanted to share my journey.

Just an update..... I've been back to the doctors today been seen by a lady doctor and nurse and the doctor has referred me for a colposcopy 😣 thought all this had ended for me now after having my operation but obviously not. Xxx
Oh Mrsg85 so sorry you're having to go through this after everything you've been through with your repair. It's positive that you've been seen so quickly and you won't have to wait long now before your colposcopy appointment. There'll be a forum on this website where you're sure to get some support and advice. Sending hugs 😘😘
Thankyou 😙 will have a look. Hope it's not too long. Thankyou so much for helping me through my operation and recovery all your advice has been amazing xxx
It was my pleasure and I'm here for you if I can help in any way and you can always message me. I do have some professional experience of colposcopy because I saw patients on the ward (in the days before there was a separate department) and obviously it's part of gynaecology. Keep in touch anyway with this forum, there's some lovely caring ladies posting here 😘😘
I will be in touch when I know more hopefully won't be waiting too long .... thankyou again I will defiantly stay in touch xxx
Good luck. Hope you're not left waiting too long and try not to worry. Take care. Xx
