Blip or need more mgs?

Hi all

I hope you are all well haven't commented in a while! But been chatting on some posts! Anyhow having an awful week grr anxiety increased mood low at times sometimes it's ok! Intrusive thoughts different ones this time I had them under control but now the frightening heat feeling happens. I have just moved departments in work and I am not yet settled its very different from my last place! Maybe it's this and aftermath of Xmas etc I have 3 young boys two have been sick I'm tired but so weak and sleeping ok! Dr has ran bloods but think they are ok! Ps I am on citalopram 15 months can they stop working please x

Emma

Citalopram can't stop working as long as you take them as presribed. You don't mention what dose you are on or whether you take them morning or night. The ony problem I would mention is that 15 months is quite a long while to be on them and they can become addictive.  I suggest you have a word with you GP he may be able to switch you to something else. Ask him about Lithium.

These meds don't stop working and they won't become addictive either.  I took these for 16 years and my doctor said you can take them for life if needed, just as anyone needing medicine for diabetes, epilepsy or anything else.

I think you've hit the nail on the head.  You've moved departments, it's after Christmas and you have a busy family life.  Though you will feel great taking the meds, when you come under fire you may well have feel stress which will manifest itself in the way of a blip.  Your body is just reacting to changes, a bit of stress and usual day to day hectic life - probably fine if it was just one of those, but all rolled in together and you're bound to have a reaction.

Intrusive thoughts are just a symptom of anxiety, and once the anxiety starts to calm so will the intrusive thoughts.

Just accept it all as a hiccup due to these stressors for the time being, and when you've settled in your new department and the Christmas slump has passed, I'm sure you'll once again be back up on top.

I always feel a little uneasy in January - I put it down to the Christmas slump (big build up for the festivities and family time, then down the other side) and the dark weather.  Spring is always better for me.

When I'm overtired I can usually feel 'not right' too.  Lots of small things can unsettle you.

But these meds definitely do not stop working.  Take them as long as you like.

Try and take life at a slower pace, by that I mean just take a deep breath, breathe out, relax the body, and go about your business in a calmer manner.  It does help.  Oooh, try and get some good sleep too.

Im sure this blip will pass.

Thanks for the reply Kate!

I take my cit at night been trying to pull it back to tea time as the dreams i have are crazy! Didn't think you could get addicted I think 20mg is enough for me as I am very sensitive to meds even two paracetamol make me dizzy lol! Hoping once feb comes I will be settled and feeling better! Jan is horrible long month lol I hope your keeping well and your son xx

Hi gwen sorry I tried to post back but wouldn't save lol poor network I think! Didn't think you could be addicted I am so sensitive to meds like and think lithium would be very strong for me? I'm for GP next week and will chat to him thanks again x

Hey Emz, I think Kate summed it up perfectly. January is wlways unsettling, and to add to my angst I had a job interview yesterday. Trusting things will settle in time and that things will start looking a bit brighter soon. Lee.

Ahh good luck lee! Hate interviews! Yeah hope so and hope your well x

I took 20mg for years and then reduced it to 10mg for years too and finally stopped after 16 years.  Due to my son not being well over a year ago I restarted them before I crashed, but have again reduced and am now only on 5mg and staying really well and happy.  My son is doing great thanks - back to his normal happy self - took him a good 5 months before he started feeling well, improved from there on and has started reducing his meds now.

Yes you can get crazy dreams on these meds ...... I take mine in the morning and think my dreams are as normal as can be now.

Yes January is a long month and am sure as time moves on you'll settle more and things will get back to normal.

K xx

Hi Emz, wondering how you are getting on after last week? I have had a bit of a rough weekend and anxiety is up. I have had a few stress triggers, feel very tired and understand that hot burning feeling. I hope the new week brings some calm. Keep us posted.Lee x

Sorry lee I was in work yesterday to 9.30 just ready for light duty now!!! Hope the interview went well more than likely the cause of your heightened anxiety! It had two panic attacks in jan and hate them!! Not feeling as bad to be honest was actually quite happy in work yesterday but ask me tomo after night shift!! Hope your feeling better xx
