I've been having digestive problems for over a year now.
Basically I have bloating sensations which are worse after eating a drinking. Last June-August I had loads of tests, including an endoscopy, stomach biopsies, bloods, a breath test and a colonoscopy. ALL negative. I had a brief respite from these conditions for about 5 months, but since February this year they have returned.
Also, just to let you know I'm in a wheelchair and am 49.
Hi there. With all the tests being negative has your doc mentioned functional dyspepsia? It's a condition where you get all of the symptoms of dyspepsia without any cause (eg gastritis). It might be worth looking into. Best wishes
Hi - I am been taking PPI tablets for the last 5 months, I stopped taking 30mg a day days ago, and to date, have not had the bad indigestion/heart burn that I was suffering. I too had side effects, waking up with really bad headaches and feeling sick and bloated but they took the hearburn and indigestion away. Since stopping them I have experienced a cough after eating and bring up some kind if mucas just wondered if anyone else had these symptons after stopping taking them and I tend to wheeze at little at night. I wondered if this wa normal after the tablets had stopped the stomach acid and whether it was the body getting rid of it. certainly feel better not taking them dont feel crap all the time and certainly dont miss the headaches
You might be suffering a bit of acid backlash. Basically your stomach gets told not to produce acid whilst you are on ppis but the chemical that controls acid is building up in your system over this time and when you stop the tablets it overcompensated by telling your body to produce more acid. This backlash effect affects about half the people who are on ppis and the longer you are on them the more likely it is. The good news is that it only lasts a week or so, so ride it out. Your symptoms do sound like silent reflux. Have you tried raising the head of your bed and a spoon of Gaviscon Advance after every meal. That really helps me.
